This popped up on my YouTube whilst it was live so had a watch. Whilst I think bortz and Hollywood are doing a great job at saving the sport (betway doesn't consider horse racing a sport but that's for another day) they did speak about the open bet there doesn't seem to be any interest in building up the tote I guess it is kind of their competitions baby but my feeling is without the tote bets there would be many a punter who would look to bet elsewhere. Perhaps if they can't feed the tote bets on thier platforms into the tote the bookmakers can come together and make a new tote. Wouldn't it also be funding the sport I mean there is talk in the podcast about funding the losses. If the cape racing team and Hollywood introduced thier own tote system I reckon pools would be huge

......open bet.....open and shut case the tote lost and no use crying over spilled milk.....and Bortz was open and very frank that operators can no longer fund racing from their rake from tote pools alone.....and the tie up with Hollywood ensures that they can cover the costs of coastal racing operations....which may just be a chop of their open bet revenue......as HWB constantly grows their customer base the tote pools will continue to stagnate and only one casualty will eventually be 4Q as their model relies largely on tote rake to fund horse racing which can no longer be sustained under the continued open bet onslaught.....oh my

Open bet
Considering the mind set and what eg Hollywood and Wsb do put back into racing, is it possible the joint hold on open exotics could eventually lead to the punters having two possible payouts ?
Official tote divided
Open bet divided
Food for thought
Good Punting

I did receive a call in connection with my post and this is certainly not being considered.
It would be confusing where bookmakers would be in a position to offer the best dividends and its not the intention to further destroy the tote
Good Punting 👍

......all the open bet boys need from the tote only for their dividends......and why would they want to get single digit % from the tote okes after the tote operator's rake 20-25% of various tote pools ....when they can scoop much bigger loot from the many more punters playing open bet exotics.....those that start taking advantage are soon limited but throngs of the many more carry on feeding the kitty....money made without any major risk.....

......no longer bemoaning the open bet as that ship has sailed and as Bortz says HWB is plugging the holes where "coastal racing" has shortfalls so they are plowing back plenty into racing operations and will be largely funding an entirely new synthetic system at Greyville.....wow

I do see some green shoots taking place in SA racing.
Exporting horses
Online bookies funding Racing
Sponsorship of Trainers and Jockeys
What is lacking is a program to bring new blood into the sport as a punter or as an owner.
Possibly some sort of rebate to smaller owners to reduce vet bills and other costs.
remove % paid to trainers and jockeys for all places exclusing a win.

.....watch the earlier interview with Justin Vermaak also on Youtube.... where he has plans to stimulate horse ownership and grow horse population increase fields and stimulate the coastal racing regions....but they have to fix the programming of races to cater for Greyville poly refurbishment before trying to coax new or renewed participation
.....what is not working is trying to reach potential newbies by broadcast media to the already long initiated GallopTV and 240....and more of that like the Kings Plate extravaganza flighted on FTA SABC channels....huh
