WSB MET was just a PERFECT DAY
4 months 1 week ago - 4 months 1 week ago
Good morning all from what appeared to be a Perfect Day at the World Sport Betting sponsored MET.
The upgraded Hollywood Kenilworth venue was the perfect setting with wonderful weather 😍
OK a few results kept it from being a perfect day but what a boost for racing in general.
Many positives as far as the hospitality, food, staff, planning etc. 👏
Numerous people need a thank you and probably too many to mention.
However let's give it a go ..
World Sports Betting team
Hollywood team
Greg Bortz
The presentation team
The race caller, well done Ali.
The jockeys, trainers and owners.
Snaith team
Richard and Gavin
Nic Jonsson
The horses
What a great race Rascova and Double Grand Slam gave us.
Gimme A Prince was unbelievable and well done Lucky Lad.
Eight on Eighteen was a brilliant winner plus well done to the game runner up and SIA 😉 many stories.
Is 8 your Lucky number ?
Backed from 18/1 to 18/10 .
We had a horse at Catterick yesterday Owl of Athens.
Was beaten a total of 288 lengths in its first seven races and yesterday was its 8th race and was backed from 80/1 to 18/10 and won by 8 lengths.
Constitution Hill also won easily although hitting the last Hurdle was a bit scary.
East Indian Dock and L'Homme Presse also shortened for the Festival.
Back to the MET
Just waiting for our competition winner to be confirmed but thanks to all who entered and sorry to Ziets as we used tote dividends and not WSB prices and that would have made the difference 😢 from winning to 4th place.
Looks like Beyern is our winner and thanks to Elvis and Mrs Elvis for the effort 👌
Well done again to everyone who made the perfect day
Good Punting 👍

The dominance of Snaith Yard continues to be a concern for me. They have the horses and are super proffesional outfit. Where are the other trainers in the WC. 38 runners 6 winners 4 seconds 5 thirds 2 forths and 5 fifths. 10 million in stakes and he took 4.5 million of it.
Merit rating will be interesting come tuesday. Will they punish the Sprinter for its impressive win?
See It Again. Does it win the Met if Venniker rides it?
Montein another fantastic run for small yard. Garrix and Meu Capitano casrrying th flag for the smaller yards.
Gauteng/KZN/PE all MIA on the big day. a few minor placings all they got for their efforts.
I found most the post race interviews so sweet and syruppy i had to take my false teeth out cause they were getting cavities.
TAB website/Software is a massive problem in SA Racing. Needs a complete overall before massive fraud occurs.
Vercingetrix dominated the day 3 winners 5 seconds 3 thirds 2 forths and 4 fifth places from 25 runners. Only Snaith had a better day.

I would go so far as saying fraud allready happening on the tote just depends whats to be considered massive.

I literally arrived home in PE from the Met a short while ago. On the plane home with i saw Nadine, Alan Greeff and Kelly Mitchley. It was a very early flight (6:05am) and everybody looked a bit moeg lol....
On the way into the course i met Deez and the other young chap that presents in KZN. What a friendly and humble person Deez is. He was in conversation with a few other people so i waited until he was done. He warmly extended his hand to me, and we had a quick chat. Left me feeling great.
Okay, so here is my 2 cents on the day. I bought quite expensive tickets for myself and my partner in one of the marquees. I printed the confirmation i received from Quicket and proceeded to said marquee. We were stopped and told we needed and arm band for entrance, but nobody knew where to direct us. Eventually after asking around for about 10 minutes in the scorching heat, we were directed to an area where the Quicket people were situated. They were amazing, scanned our barcodes and gave us our yellow armbands and off we went.
The marquee was beautifully erected right next to the pull up area so i was quite chuffed about this. It was a real scorcher on Saturday, so it was quite hot already at 10am when we took our seats. There were some fans provided all over the tent, but these didn't provide any relief. The aircon guys were on standby there and fiddled and moved them around. They even swopped them for bigger fans but to no avail, they were ineffective, and tempers started to boil over, pardon the pun. We had to be content from there onwards with the conditions.
We were given one complimentary glass of champagne. On the tables were racecards provided. Not to sound ungrateful, but for the price we paid, some light snacks would have been nice. Maybe I'm nitpicking?
Positives - all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. From the cleaning staff, security, the marshals that ushered us into the parking area, the signage to the racecourse along the road, brilliant!!!
Plenty of food trucks with a wide variety of foods available and what we had was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. We were however prevented from taking our food into the marquee and had to sit outside and eat. This was torture in the heat. Later on, i noticed many people eventually just walked right in with their food and ate at the tables. Left me a bit bewildered.
Negatives - Went to the loo and had to ask a few security staff who pointed me to a dilapidated, foul-smelling toilet hidden away behind the Heineken set up thingy. Really disgusting and many people turned away and stood around not knowing if there were other toilets. A cleaner then mentioned that we should go to the main building way across the other side. It was here that i decided to cut my stay short and left feeling a bit done in.
The vibe on course was amazing but too much was going on at the same time as you would watch a race followed by the interviews etc....then suddenly Deez would interview some irrelevant person who loved talking about themselves and then they would abruptly show fashion and then shoot back for the parade ring preview for the next race. I couldn't keep up but maybe that's because I'm getting old lol...
Would i go again? Yes, but only if i can be invited by WSB or Hollywood who had a fantastic airconditioned set up for their VIP's who undoubtedly had a great time being wined and dined. Side Note - when we came through the arrivals hall at the airport on Friday, WSB and Hollywood had staff handing out goodies.
I received a racecard and pen from Hollywood's team and a goodie bag with a pen, lollipop and a R100 betting voucher from the beautiful and very friendly WSB ladies. Thank you WSB
On a parting note, i missed the pick 6 for 5% when I'm So Pretty came storming home. Felt like a kick in the groin

Re: WSB MET was just a PERFECT DAY

Imo it was not 'perfect' - not even close (must admit that my poor performance on the day added to that opinion); Sylvester mentioned some of the gripes - to me I re-discovered the mute button (or switched to the cricket and the rugby during the 'waffle') - how one can get a guest presenter to tell us what all of us know (and well as mentioning most of the runners as 'here is a horse') is beyond me
Highlights were definitely Gimme a Prince - awesome performance - and Eight on Eighteen (but who knows what would have happened if JP decided to not go to the outside in the straight - better going I believe was down the inside)
On the story on how Eight on Eighteen got his name (but imo the winning interview was not the right place to bring it up) - I believe the owner got irritated by the incorrect facts as to the lead up how the Eight on the Eighteenth was achieved (not the fact that indeed an 'Eight on the Eighteenth' at Leopard Creek was achieved) - imo as mentioned by the owner, the writer could have picked up the phone to ask the owner (but who knows if he did attempt a phone call but was ignored) - so a storm in a teacup imo
A closing word on the Snaith stable - they would never train for me (but rightfully see if they care) - how many of his winners were actually supported - imo (probably sour grapes) but one gets the idea that they just flood the races and hope for the best ....
