After this week, surely Mucho Dinero and Future Swing will drop out of the Top Twenty - also Magic Verse and Holding Thumbs imo did not do enough to get into the Top Twenty - perhaps Rainbow Lorikeet can sneak in ....

After today, given all the scratching's in the 2nd log and older horses performances of late. I must say, this is forming up to be handed on a platter for top 2 in betting. Its now reaching a point that there are no more horses to consider and it will be selecting 20 horses from 22 or 23.
Its an amazing day when a horse not even on the log, beats a bunch of old and wornout horses and from a merit rating of 106 comes into July at 8-1 third favorite.
If I could run with 57 kgs even i would finish in the top 3, that's how poor this year's field is turning out.

Take 8 on 18 out and do you think there is any horse that could win a grade 3 race in the UK?

After having spent time scruitinizing the entries for the VDJ, this is the least competitive field I have ever seen. Our chart topper is a doubtful starter and at least 15 of the remaining entries are just "hopefuls" of getting a ticket into the race. Panels decision will be more aligned to "Whose the best of the worst" as opposed to the best of the best. Nonetheless, the race must still go on and I really think that an upset is on the cards.

The final week to go before the field is announced on Monday the 23rd June.
My 7 ticks for the favorite to almost be guaranteed a run:
1. The pace maker Okavango has a July birth, no need for ownership to look to other owners for help, pace is on for sure.
2. Top weight is guaranteed to Oriental Charm, hence 8/18 will have a wfa benefit and come in around 57kgs or even 56.5 at best, based on final allocations.
3. Its really a two or three horse race at best, never been a better time to have a favorite in the race, when all other 3yr olds have no chance and older horses are off form.
4. All other Snaith horses will finish in the bottom half of field, and a perfect chance to either win it and be ahead on 6 July wins. Unlike other years, Snaith must know all his other horses are badly in at the weights of very off form.
5. It may well be the Snaiths only winner on July day, no other horse of there's has stood out this entire season. Run the champion and win, or not even get in the winners enclosure on the day.
6. Not running the horse will piss Richard Fourie off so bad. He wants the ride, he wants the horse to run. He knows this race is at his mercy, the way he rode 8/18 in Daily News, he left the horse on 3rd gear.
7. Enough time has passed by this week to extend doubles and trebles for good bets to land. As once confirmed this horse will be 14/10 and maybe shorter to win the July.

Still not sure if he will run. Birdies are saying that he wont. You can get 22/10 or 5/2 at some bookies right now.

Let me counter some of the points raised -
1. Depending on whether 8 on 18 runs, Okavango might be the stable elext - and Oriental Charm will be hard pressed to not lead
2. Top weight will be OC, with See It Again and Gladatorian give current ratings
3. This is a Handicap (of sorts) - so theoretically given the ratings all higher rated runners should finish with not a lot between them - so not sure where you find the 'two or 3-horse race'
4. I agree that other Snaith runners should finish in the bottom half of the field
5. I think at the moment the Snaiths would have a few (at least) competitive runners
6. Whether Fourie wants him to race, it is ultimatedly up to the owner
7. Agreed - but at these odds on 8 on 18 the doubles would prove skimpy
Despite all this, imo there is more to lose by not running 8 on 18 ....

Any idea when we can expect Justin Snaith to make this all important announcement?

When Craig Zackey was interviewed after a winning ride at Scottsville recently Deez asked him about The Real Prince for July. His comment was "If he stays he wins '" very positive from him as well as Deans upbeat remarks here .. Im not leaving this out of exotics

I think we will know if 8/18 is running sometime this week. As the weight announcements are tommorow. So I'm sure that can be the only data point that is on there mind. I mean what else can determine if he runs or not on the weekend? Nothing else at all. The draws mean little with this horses running style...no matter the draw ut will be dropped out naturally no matter what
