Thoughts On Interbet - Part 2

The second 'weakness' on the present Interbet site is regarding the offering (or rather non-offering) of prices on many races.

It is often impossible to obtain a bet on any but a handful of horses at the top of the board. Even 'buy orders' submitted at the prevailing price are often ignored or cynically responded to at well under the odds.In some instances only the favourite is ever offered whilst a screen might even remain completely blank until seconds before the off.

Here is my suggestion as to how this problem can be circumvented.

If you sign up to use Interbet's facility as a bookmaker then you automatically participate in the play in a similar fashion to the manner in which claims work. So if we have 100 bookmakers who are registered Interbet users then they are each contractually liable for, say, R 500 on every race hosted by Interbet.

This would mean that there is a minimum of R 50,000 ( 100 x R500 ) on offer upfront for every race at the designated ante post price. Interbet could then allocate this fund to each field in ratio and proportion to the betting- eg an even money favourite would offer 50% of the total etc. Bookmakers who wished to offer more ( or better ) could do so in the normal manner.

For those bookmakers who are clearly terrified about 'doing' a whole R500; be aware that the stake is spread over the whole field so an attempted coup is unlikely to take out even as much as a full claim does. The market can then adjust.

I am sure there are many out there who could fine tune, modify and/or improve on this concept. But to presently have a site which often offers nothing is ludicrous.

A number of bookmakers might also be surprised to learn that there is plenty of untapped demand out there which they are not presently servicing.

Be interesting to hear what other clan members think.

I have to agree Garrick, I tend to think bookies have become lazy when trying to attract business, especially in ante post markets.
I have also sent to Interbet to circulate and lets see what happens.
I was also a bookie for 2 years so I can use the term lazy.
