Takeover Target wins
thrilling Group 2
Takeover Target: has won half of his 36 career stars
Perth: Winterbottom Stakes (Group 2) 6f, turf
TAKEOVER TARGET, having his first start since the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, showed again his champion qualities with a nose defeat of Apache Cat in the Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot, Perth, on Saturday.
Joe Janiak's much-travelled nine-year-old, with Jay Ford making the trip from Singapore to take the mount, and multiple Group 1 winner Apache Cat (Corey Brown), who is bound for the International Sprint at Sha Tin next month, fought out the terrific finish.
Takeover Target, the 1.9-1 favourite, began well in the $A400,000 (£170,602/€206,188) race and just held on from Apache Cat.
The winning trainer was understandably ecstatic and said: "That was about the 16th heart-attack I've had - what a superstar!
"Ihaven't had any prize-money since June, so I might be able to buy a beer or two tonight! We'll run here again in a fortnight in the Scahill Stakes."
Takeover Target has won 18 of his 36 starts, and took his earnings to $A5,443,700 with this latest win.

Morning pirates, have to agree, I am sure there is rules and regulations in place with time limits, but this one must have slipped through? However, I stand under correction?

The naming convention does not seem to apply to different countries. I see quite a few same name horses in the UK currently as we have in South Africa.... none spring to mind at present... and did a UK horse named Silent Witness not recently just break his maiden after 4 consecutive seconds ??
