Devin Habib and starter found guilty
NHA PRESS RELEASE:
Inquiry: jockey Devin Habib
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on 17 December 2008, Jockey Devin Habib was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.18, in that he conducted himself in an unprofessional manner by using abusive language towards an employee of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa, namely Mr Lefa Maphutse the Starter, during the performance of his duties before the running of Race 4 at Turffontein Racecourse on 13 December 2008.
Mr Habib pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Inquiry Board found Mr Habib guilty as charged and imposed a fine of R5 000,00, of which R2 500,00 is suspended on the condition that he does not commit an offence in terms of Rule 72.1.18 for the period of one year.
Mr Habib was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
At the same hearing Mr L Maphutse was also found guilty of improper conduct and the Inquiry Board recommended that Mr Maphutse’s penalty be determined in terms of The National Horseracing Authority’s Disciplinary Code.
