Barry come and live here for a while - maybe you will see it different.... why are the twentysomethings like Partyline still being penalised - this democracy is now 14 years old and they mostly all come out of the same school system and were given equal chances.........
Forgiving and moving on is the only answer

Umlilo I am sympathetic to what you state and I by know means seek to offend by parts of what follows but rather wish to inspire thought and debate. From what I can understand of you, you seek to do the same thing by posting what can seemingly be (in some quarters) controversial:

Mr Irwin, with all due respect sir, you are preaching from an iron castle. What if you were our age starting out and a system denied you of ever achieving, would you not feel aggrieved. Is it not time for people to reconcile and everyone to receive equal opportunity?

How would you feel if your government decided to take away your thoroughbreds and somehow dissolved connections and asked you to start again without aforementioned? Do you believe that you could go back to the beginning?

On the other side of the coin, I am also previously disadvantaged to an extent. I come from a dirt poor family. Do I get recognised as previously disadvantaged? No. This does not deter my aspirations however. I refuse to allow AA to be an excuse for not achieving. I am in control of my own destiny and I will succeed. I am already a quarter of the way there. Those who have left and wave the orange white and blue flag overseas will forever blame the system for their own shortcomings.

Denying that we have a past by refusing to listen to what actually went on the old days does nothing for understanding. Believing in a Robin Hood system does nothing for understanding. The cream will always rise to the top and the motivated few who dream to achieve will rise, whether they be black or white.

Alcaponee- wise observation- I will not take offense but be inspired!

'White Fang' was susceptible to human laughter- why? A dog?

Confronting & grappling with controversy brings about understanding & wisdom (aikona, not me!)- question rationally, and you shall find the answers (Socrates)!

Are some of us not nurturing 'white fangs' by continually shutting the door on dialogue which is not palatable or popular?

It must be a “riem onder die hart” for bloomberg to see more people are “in love” with bloomberg than only bloomberg himself.
As for AA, it worked out well for me. After retirement I would have gone on to dutifully serve my “fellow human beings” in some dreary retirement job. But being white, I was not wanted – no I can watch sport all day.

Hanif & Barry.

I see three fundemental flaws with AA/BEE.

Firstly,South Africa is a growing/ expanding economy despite recent economic events. As a result there is an ever expanding demand for jobs. Is it necessary to take jobs away from the affirmed, why not just give all the new jobs to the AA candidates.

Secondly, would it not be better to create a proper capital base for aspiring entrepeneurs, this would enable the creation of a new breed of entrep. who could create more jobs and wealth.

My company supplies major retailers/ corporates, everyday i have to deal with 2 AA employees doing one person job, there is no accountability. Similarly I can count on my hand the amount of times I have been offered services or products by AA candidates.

Thirdly, how does forcing people through the system build self esteem and worth, I have seen people pushed through varsity and appointed to the best jobs. They know they don't have to produce their best and subsequently embrace mediocrity.

Regards.

Bobby

fingers-

Yes! I also enjoyed our boys thrashing the lights out of the Aussies (watching sports the whole day)!

Party line-
but, we are not disputing what you aver.
When I was on the GGB, the preferred candidate (Indian, with a string of genuine degrees, science, IT, Accounting, experience, etc) was not the 'right shade of black' according to one of my disgusted colleagues at the time. Instead, the son-in-law of a veteran African struggle hero icon got the job (just after the company he was CEO of went bust)! What chance would a white have had?

Join me in the chorus...'Do bee, do bee, do bee...do bah..ah...hah...ha!'

Or, tar me black!
