Sunday’s BSA Horses-in-Training Sale will be a 'buyer’s sale'

BLOODSTOCK SA’s 2009 Summer Horses-in-Training Sale on Sunday 25 January is headed by 21 entries from John and Dianne Spence’s Kopjeskraal Thoroughbred Stud.

The Spences are emigrating to Malta and have decided to scale down their racing and breeding operations in South Africa, which includes several runners in training with Terry Lowe and a handful of untried prospects.

Said Lowe: “It is sad to see John and Dianne go as they have been great patrons and an asset to our industry. We’ve had some bad luck with some of their better runners, but there are a few nice buys for prospective buyers. This will be a buyer’s sale, so there will be good value.’’

The unraced thoroughbreds in the Kopjeskraal draft include two fillies by Jet Master, a colt by Kahal and one by Requiem.

“They’re all very nice specimens who would fetch big prices at the bigger sales,’’ said Lowe. “I haven’t tried them yet, but the Jet Master fillies are working at half-pace and have impressed me. The two-year-old colt by Kahal is a quality type, he is from Flagwaver who has produced five winners from six previous runners. His year-older brother by Requiem also looks classy but will probably take a little more time to mature.’’

Henry and Pat Devine have consigned Constitution Hill, a well-performed sprinter by Doowaley who should get his share of interest along with Lowe’s own recent winner Woodland Tale, an Al Mufti x Fort Wood cross with breeding potential.

Late entries include Dominic Zaki-trained Sleepless Seattle, a smart three-time winner by Jet Master, and Silvano’s daughter Perfumed Garden, a two time winner from 15 starts.

Also on the late entry list are Sabatino, an unraced two-year old colt by Second Empire out of Enchanted Rio, along with Magic Splash a three-year old unraced filly by Hanging Road out of Sunsplashed.
The sale will be held at the TBA Sales Complex at Gosforth Park and starts at 2pm. Catalogues are available on www.tba.co.za or from TBA Headquarters. Phone (011) 323 5700.

I'll leave those alone. However, one or two kind of catch my eye (but I won't lose any sleep if I don't get them, that's for sure!)
