Scottsville - Sunday 25-01-2009

Will any of the clans folk be at this meeting on Sunday. I will be making a trip to PMB and will be attending this meeting. It will be my first trip to Scottsville and I am obviously very excited about going. We are supposed to be visiting friends in the area, but I have convinced the mates that we have to go racing. I would by Sunday have been to every track in KZN. Just have JHB and the Cape to attend to in the future. Flamingo is not on my list of to dos.

Would not mind meeting some of the clan if any are attending.

Thanks Big T - will only be arriving in PMB on race day (Sunday). Wife is having a baby shower on Saturday in our home town Margate.

Thanks for the offer though - will try and make a turn at the branch on Sunday.

Well I am on 8 days leave and thought that I sould report back on my impressions of Scottsville. Well Scotias tip romped home and I nearly got a very nice double with Mia Joshua, but missed out by a short head. I might have been on TV on both occasions as I was posted at the winning post both times. Hands were in the air when Summer Samba run in.

Scottsville is cool. Lots of younger folk (students I guess) supporting the races. A great vibe with people shouting the winners home. I would guess that there must have been 800 or so people on course. I enjoyed the fact that the parade ring and track were not too far apart ample time to take everything in.

I must say that the track experience is always awesome. Time goes by so quickly and races follow eachother in quite quick succession. At home you wonder why it is necessary to have 20+ minute breaks betwen races. Television does not do racing justice and being at the track will forever be better. The Jockey silks seem so much brighter and intense and the giants of racing shrink to their real size, jockeys, trainers and the horses. They seem larger than life in my mind I suppose.

Well Scottsvile may not rate as the prettiest or most horse friendly course but it did have a far better vibe than Clairwood did on Cup Trial day. I have only experienced Greyville on July day so cannot fairly compare. All in all it was a memorable experience which I definitely do again.

Could not make it to Fouries - Pregnant wife's hormones kicked in and had to give it a miss. Will try and get round there too at some stage.
