Gold Circle's poor performance on Met Day
16 years 4 months ago
Two things that really bugged me on the day:
1) They decided to put tents up all the way along the grand stand rail - from the 100m mark to about 50m after the finish line - so unless you were 15ft tall, you couldn't see the last 150 meters of the race - unless you were near a TV.
2) I think there were 2 loud speakers on the course - cos i didn't hear a word of commentary the entire day.
Heard alot of people moaning about the same 2 things. Well done GC - thats how you get people coming back to the course. Discusting.

Broke down and decided to go. Was happy once I was there. Crowd management was very good, there seemed to be a one-way flow system in place which meant getting around was much easier than in years past.
Left before the end and stood in a 20 min queue to collect my tote winnings (couple 100 I would think) but when I got to my turn a blank face informed me she had no money to pay me, and 'they' where not going to bring any. She gestured to other long queues and suggested I try there.
I decided not to make a fuss as lots of lovely young people behind me were happily debating the merits of swingers and whatnot, so I left. Once again, good luck with that tote thing, but they are now 2 for 3 not paying me on course at home time (the previous time there was no PA result by the time all the sellers had closed and my ice had melted to nothing).
Re point 2 above: I watched the Met with from the public grandstand and all thousands of us couldn't hear one word of commentary, but there was excellent sound for us owners in the parade ring at least.

GC's performance generally on course meetings is poor..I have been once to Kenilworth about 3 yrs ago..just a normal meeting and it was so gross I decided not to go back again. When I say gross..the furniture in the lounge, the service at the tote, the non existant service at the bar ..cant even begin to compare it to the Elevation Room.

The new members lounge is on the 2nd floor.....theres a HUGE improvement in facilities so i suggest all those 'doubters' out there come and see for yourselves...if you are vsiting as an RA memeber we would welcome you to use the facilities but if you are going to race weekly here then maybe join GC and have full use of everything all the time.....
