$3m offered for Triple Crown hope Win Willy

NO sooner had 56-1 shot Win Willy floored Kentucky Derby favourite Old Fashioned in Arkansas on Saturday than the big-money offers started to come in for the son of Monarchos.

According to Brisnet.com, connections have turned down a $3million bid for the colt, who will be a late nominee to the Triple Crown.

Trainer Mac Robertson wil now target the $1m Arkansas Derby on April 11 with Win Willy, who closed from last place to stun 2-5 favourite Old Fashioned in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes.

"Oaklawn Park is my favourite track," said the trainer. "It was my favourite even before I won the Rebel yesterday," added Robertson, who has won the last four training titles at lowly Canterbury Park near Minneapolis.

"I got Win Willy last year at Canterbury Park. I knew he was a good prospect the first time I ran him.

"I was sure he would run a big race and we need to give this colt a lot of credit. He broke from the outside post, then circled the rivals, and was drawing clear at the end of the race."
