It was unfortunate. With no disrespect that fav probably ran 2nd in the blind school the tide before, even though he only beat himself on that occasion.

From Vee Moodley.

In response to your clients query:I have spoken to our NHA Senior Veterinary Surgeon Dr.Macdonald who has advised me as follows:Baronial's first instance when he was scratched on the 31.01.2009 was associated with having cast the o/f shoe on the way to the start. The Trainers private Vet substantiated the fact that this horse had a problem with the O/F hoof and treated it accordingly.Despite such treatment when presented on the 14.02.2009,this horse was again scratched at the start by the NHA Vets. The Assistant Trainer was spoken to and advised that further veterinary examination was required,as this horse Baronial, was still not sufficiently sound to race.Whereas in most cases a 2nd consecutive scratching would automatically involve a suspension,it was considered that the circumstances surrounding this condition did not warrant such a severe penalty, particularly in the light of the private Vets report. However it would appear that despite further veterinary treatment this horse as still not sufficiently recovered to return to racing and has therefore now been indefinitely suspended until the condition is totally rectified. The latter means that only once a satisfactory veterinary certificate confirming diagnosis, treatment and a fitness to return to race is received from the trainers private vet, will this horse be galloped on a race day in the presence of the NHA vets, who will have the final say in determining whether this horse can be nominated to race or not.

Hoping this response clarifies the query. For any further information please do not hesitate to contact NHA Vet Dr.Macdonald.

Cheers,
