Marwing records 55-1 double at Happy Valley
WEICHONG MARWING wasted no time returning to winning ways after an abortive World Cup night in Dubai by riding a 55-1 double at Happy Valley in Hong Kong on Wednesday night.
Marwing opened his account with wire-to-wire victory of Loyal Army in the So Uk Handicap, opening event of the night. He then completed his double with victory aboard the nine-year-old Bobo Win in the Tung Tau Handicap.
Marwing started the season very slowly when he worked as retained jockey to trainer Ricky Yiu but finally get things going since breaking with Yiu and becoming a freelance in January.
Marwing said: "I am glad those horses ran well as expected. These few months has been great. I will keep my head down and try hard. Hopefully more winners will come soon."
Jockey Douglas Whyte also had a good night when he won the last three races of the meeting. First he teamed up with trainer John Size to win with Real Special in the Chuk Yuen Handicap, then rode a double for South African trainer David Ferraris with Magic Sweep in the Nam Cheong Handicap and Speedy Warrior in the Pak Tin Handicap.
