JACK MILNER form RXP

A NUMBER of runners for Thursday's Vaal meeting have been the subject of early betting moves, the biggest of which has come for Stuart Pettigrew’s runner in Race 4, Mirage Of Stars.

The addition of blinkers appears to have made volumes of difference to St John Gray’s Belorus and after his fluent 14.75-length victory over 1450m on the Vaal sand track, bookmakers opened him up at 6-10 to notch up his third successive victory at this course.

The only danger looks to be Mirage Of Stars but he has never raced on the sand. Clearly the stable is expecting a progressive performance as his price was claimed twice yesterday. There was first a R25 000 claim on his opening price of 5-1 and then a second claim of the same value on the reduced odds of 4-1.

Mirage Of Stars, the mount of Piere Strydom, is currently on offer at 3-1 while Belorus, who will be ridden by Anton Marcus, has moved out a point to 7-10. Strydom rode the Pettigrew runner last time out when he finished well to run a 1.50-length second to master Blaster on the Turffontein inside track. They might also be looking at the fact that Belorus will have to jump from a No 12 draw which means Marcus will have to get him out pretty quickly.

There has also been money at long odds for Pettigrew’s runner in Race 7, Fancy’sum Action.
The five-year-old mare was narrowly beaten by Captain’s Gal last time out but does take a massive jump in class this afternoon. There was a R25 000 claim on her price of 16-1 and she is now trading at 10-1.

Hersonet has been priced up favourite at 18-10 for the race in which Mike de Kock’s Candy Singer will be an absentee. The Argentinian-bred filly is reported to be off her feed and was pulled out at lunchtime yesterday.

There has also been a betting move for Afreet, the outsider of Charles Laird’s trio. Gavin Lerena’s mount has been backed in from 20-1 to 14-1. Other than Hersonet Laird also has Cause For Hope in the race over 1600m on the turf.

Other runners to be claimed are Sean Tarry’s Cappie (28-10 to 18-10) and Secret Rush (25-1 to 12-1) in Race 2, Sonic Barrier (7-10 to 5-10) in Race3, Single Minded (50-1 to 40-1) in Race 5 as well as Mitra (9-2 to 7-2) and Nolita (14-1 to 10-1) in Race 6

If Bells-a-calling can overcome that draw she is a big runner- respect BREEZE ON BY - very highly thought of but was green around the bend on debut- Although there are some top bred babies in the first my thoughts would be to structure bets around CHEERFUL NEWS as Leon Erasmus has a line through his other youngsters and he's entered this one in the nursery - Good Punting (pity that candy singer scratched as she would have been a first choice banker in the 7th) www.racingassociation.co.za/show_news_element.php?id=776

I like Casey's Light in Race 4 to place; my PA bankers are Sonic Barrier and Patina and I am going wide in Race 5, 7 and 8 - no roket science in that I suppose.

Play well

I fancy Society Girl in the 8th today. She ran a good second behind Penny Bun who followed up well next time out. Society Girl has also placed on 6 out of 7 runs on this surface, she is well drawn today and 12/1 looks good each way value to me. I think Solfatara can also run a big race here at decent odds after a good effort on her only run on the sand beating a few of this field comfortably already. A nice long odds swinger could be Society Girl and Solfatara.

Well, out goes the Marcus PA many was expecting.

I respect both Bells-a-Calling and Society Girl - could be a nice swinger.

Scarface,

I took 2 PA's; in the one I banked Marcus in the 1st leg - ouch; but for what it's worth the other one is still going - I need Patina to place here
