Vision takes Prix Ganay at Longchamp
16 years 3 months agoLast year's French Derby winner Vision DEtat secured more Group One glory in the Prix Ganay - Grand Prix Air Mauritius at Longchamp..
Eric Libaud's four-year-old, fifth behind Zarkava in the Arc, streaked into a commanding lead around two furlongs from home, and maintained a zesty gallop towards the line.
The chasing pack hauled back Vision D'Etat's advantage close home, with runner-up Loup Breton faring best of all.
But Libaud's 13-8 favourite was always on top of proceedings, and won with a little in hand.
British representatives, Tajaaweed and Cima De Triomphe, and Aidan O'Brien's duo of Thewayyouare and Red Rock Canyon failed to make the frame.
Denomination turned in a redoubtable front-running display to win the Group Three Prix Vanteaux Beachcomber Hotels Le Royal Palm.
Ridden by Dominic Boeuf and trained by Criquette Head-Maarek, the three-year-old filly showed a most willing attitude to keep at bay Celebra, who endured a fractious race on the far rail.
The 9-4 favourite was supplementing a recent Listed course-and-distance success from earlier this month.
Head-Maarek said: "This is a very tough and very brave filly.
"She's in the French Guineas, but that's in just two weeks' time and will come too soon.
"She will instead go for the French Oaks.
"My other filly, Proportional, will be running in the French Guineas and she's doing very well."
