Good morning and the bookies are up early in the Cape, with offers on all the runners on Interbet, but at this stage no bargains?

Fancy Mountain Ash as the banker today, what do you say? looks difficult.

good punting!

JACK MILNER RXP

Two debut winners will go head to head in an interesting Novice Plate at Durbanville on Wednesday. Cielo Dorado from the Harold Crawford yard and Mountain Ash, trained by Brett Crawford, looked to have some promise when winning first time out and it could be hard to separate them in Race 7 over 1600m.

Argentine-bred Cielo Dorado has the advantage of having won at Durbanville, a course that stymies many horses with its tight turn and quick surface. He was supported in the betting to 6-1 and after taking the lead early in the straight in a 1400m race, kicked on well to beat Advocacy by 1.50 lengths.

Mountain Ash probably beat a stronger field when fighting off Spear Of Destiny over 1200m at Kenilworth to win by a short head. Being by Fort Wood out of an Al Mufti mare, the three-year-old gelding is clearly looking for more ground and is sure to benefit from additional 400m.

Both are drawn well so that should not be much of a concern but perhaps Mountain Ash, the mount of Karl Neisius, could have a slight edge.

Greg Ennion has been leading in a few winners of late and sends out American Man, to be ridden by Bernard Fayd’Herbe. The Australian-bred colt has had six runs for a win and four places and experience could count in his favour.

He was rather one-paced in his last run, which was his first at Durbanville, and could only manage a 5.25-length fourth behind Ferchard over 1400m. He will sport blinkers for the first time and that could make a difference.

Two others with chances include Shane Humby’s Hades and Dongola, who has his first run for Glen Kotzen’s in-form yard.

Also interesting that Cielo Dorado beat Advocacy by 1.5, and that one then ran Spear Of Destiny to half a length.
Mountain Ash of course beat Spear Of Destiny by a short head on debut.

Tough card, I make Texas Jack in the last my banker. I like Mountain Ash, but I respect American Man with first time blinkers. Hospitality looks ready to win in the third, but Towering Cloud could be the "dark" horse over this much longer distance.

Gusting tail wind at Durbanville today.... I like the Domeyer double at decent odds win/win .... win/place... place/win ... and place/place on Frisk Me and City of Light.
