Scotia on another long weekend.

Good morning to you all and we have yet another long weekend.

I am not complaining, its just when you get to my age you start feeling aches and pains and things start falling off, but for those of you who have read the Forum " yesterday all our troubles were so far away" Professor Dunga has the cure?

We are going to a Motown show over the weekend so will have a voltaren shot to get "this old heart of mine" in action. I also went to buy a shirt in the new Ben Sherman shop to revive my youth, but nothing would fit the fat frame, so my days of being a mod, with the lambretta scooter are well over, maybe Prof Dunga can come to the rescue?

On the subject of weekend and ante post betting, just like to clarify a few racing events as we don't want Lucky to miss J.J's race.

This weekend we have local racing Vaal today, Fairview and Greyville(night) Friday, on Sat. we have Kenilworth and Turffontien and on Sunday Scottsville, so look forward to some good tips on the Forums.

Overseas we have the 1,000 and 2,000 gns from Newmarket the colts race on Saturday where its 5/1 the field Delegator, Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman (fav?).

For the fillies on Sunday Rainbow View remains hot fav at 13/10, cant believe it went 8/1 over the weekend!

We also have the Kentucky Derby on the 2nd, late at night where I Want Revenge is the 3/1 fav, and has drawn 13 in the 20 horse field, 13 races on the card.

The big fight is Hatton 2/1, Pacquiao 5/10 and the draw "40/1".

Champions league where Man Unt have gone slight favs at 19/10, Barcelona 2/1, Chelsea 7/2 and Arsenal 8/1 and is very difficult to call, much the same as the Super 14, with the Bulls, Sharks, Hurricanes and Chiefs?

Looking a bit further, the Oaks is on June the 5th where Rainbow View is a weak 7/1 joint fav with Fantasia (same lucky owner, both fillies) and the Derby on the 6th where Crowded House and Fame and Glory top the boards at 6/1.

Now getting to Lucky's question, Royal Ascot starts on the 16th June with the King Stand Stakes, where the flying machines will line up, including Overdose the "Budapest Bullet" 3/1 fav, and J.J. the Jet Plane at around 10/1.

The Gold Cup is on the 18th where Yeats is going for a 4 timer and Patkai the new pretender to the thrown at 4/1 joint favs.

For more details on admission etc, go to www.ascot.co.uk

Good punting and may your God be with you.

scotia.

One more long weekend anytime soon and I'm emigrating. Enough is enough. All that is achieved is that the work piles up on the handful of working days that remain. (I'm only joking - just).

Brilliant international racing to look forward to this weekend, although somebody should tell whoever designed the Tab ad currently being flighted on Tellytrack that the 1000 Guineas is run in England...the accompanying flag logo is the Stars and Stripes. Even the simplest things are hard to get right, it seems!

Local racing centres around 2yos, with Feature events at Kenilworth on Saturday and Scottsville on Sunday. There will be plenty of broken hearts come Sunday evening, I would imagine, as we learn more about who is the real deal and who is just a wannabe.

Never mind magic, just wish it was Newmarket in Alberton.

On the subject of "The Classics" I am replying to an email question.

The Classics in the U.K./England

are the 1000 gns for 3 yr old fillies and the 2000 gns 3 yr old colts run at Newmarket over a mile

The Oaks for fillies and the Derby for colts(however I am sure a filly can run) is over one and a half miles and are run at Epsom.

The St Ledger is over one and three quarter miles 2850mt? if not mistaken and is run at Doncaster.

If a horse wins the three races its called winning the triple crown,I remember Nijinsky winning it.

Nijinsky did indeed win it, but the St Leger took so much out of him that he was never the same horse again. He was subsequently beaten in two races, the Arc and the Champion Stakes, by horses that he would have had for breakfast earlier in his career. It's an enormous ask, to put it mildly, and is rarely (if ever) even attempted in the modern era.

I see some rain is forecast for the next couple of days in the UK, which hopefully will persuade connections of Delegator to have a bash at the 2000 Guineas. His trainer Brain Meehan has been quoted as saying that Delegator won't run and instead head for the French 2000 Guineas if the ground at Newmarket is too firm. He was very impressive in the recent Craven Stakes at Newmarket, and while he hardly beat a Guineas-strength field the way he quickened from last place in a matter of strides was very eye-catching.

I know I'm repeating myself myself myself myself myself....but, boy, I love this time of year!

Newmarket waters for Guineas meeting

WATERING commenced at Newmarket on Wednesday with clerk of the course Michael Prosser looking to start the stanjames.com Guineas festival on Saturday with a "decent fast racing surface."

Prosser is expecting the ground to be almost on the the good side of good to firm and the irrigation system was in operation on Wednesday.

He said: "We watered the course and 8mm has been applied with the going stick reading 9.0.

"It is decent fast ground almost on the good side of good to firm and the weather forecast is for light rain on Thursday which is likely in the morning and clearing in the afternoon.

"The rain will be nothing of consequence possibly 1mm and it will be dry on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the temperatures pleasant.

"We will monitor the situation and it is highly likely we will need to apply some water to the course again on Friday."
