Press release
Charity Turf Challenge 2009
DEADLINE EXTENDED!
Racing enthusiasts who are attending the Drill Hall Stakes meeting at Greyville Racecourse and have not yet submitted their entries for the improved and revamped 2009 Racing South Africa Charity Turf Challenge have been given a lifeline with the deadline being extended to before the start of the 5th race on Friday 8 May. Look out for Racing South Africa staff members who will be on course to assist you with your entries. The first horses on the list of 100 qualifiers to race appear in race five, namely Ethereal Lady and Lady Bequick.
This year’s competition offers a guaranteed R100 000 first prize! Can you afford not to enter? Last year “The Ringer”, Robert Bloomberg, was pipped on the post by an unknown outsider, “JMFJ”. That could be you this year! But beware, the Ringer has warned that he will be back.
“I ran into the last meeting with Bill Of Rights needing to run in the first three in the Canon Gold Cup but he unfortunately didn’t. It was a bitter pill to swallow after leading for so long but hell that’s racing and it makes for an interesting competition. I only submitted four entries last year and did it in a big rush – this year I may spend a little more time on it!” he said.
If you think you have what it takes to beat “The Ringer” and you would like to earn R100 000, then go to www.racingsouthafrica.com to enter online or download an entry form. This is how it works. Each entry costs R50 and as there is no limit on the number of entries per person, you can enter as many times as you like. Simply select your team of ten horses that you think will perform well throughout the 2009 KZN Champions Season, from the 100 nominated horses. The list includes South Africa’s top horses based on current merit ratings and the leading two-year-olds based on performance at the time of launching the competition.
Are you a passionate punter? Would you like to test your knowledge, foresight and judgement against others at a relatively low outlay over an extended period of time? Then this is your chance! Getting the right 10-horse combination could see you scoop the R100 000-00 prize on offer.
On top of the R100 000 prize money, there is also the R10 000 being offered for the entrant that scores top points on Vodacom Durban July day! The Golden Horse Casino Sprint, The Gold Challenge and the Vodacom Durban July are bonus races and will carry an extra 25 points bonus for the winners of these races.
As Racing South Africa CEO Peter Gibson said: “Whilst luck invariably plays a role, this competition is really a test of one’s knowledge of the racing game and cracking the bonus points on offer is the key!”
So enter your teams, follow them through the season and may the R100 000 be yours. Good Luck!

I tried the online entry system yesterday without success.Continually receive an error message,so I went down to my local tote in the morning to get some entry forms, but despite the poster on the wall directly behind her the tote manageress had no idea what the competition was about and certainly did not have any entry forms.
I eventually constructed an email entry when I got back home which Claudie Naidoo @ the entry office tells me has been accepted.I am however, disappointed to say that my entry participation will remain @ 1 as I certainly am not going to construct an entry form myself again.
Oh well,I guess 100 000/50 is not a bad bet to take and hopefully I can say afterwards I finally backed a 2000/1 winner!
Anyone else had any problems entering?

Yes, JAP, tried the on-line method yesterday, came to the screen where it says 'check your email for your password' and I still have not received it....will also try the email entry, I suppose.

Mine worked fine first time .... thankfully... but I would have preferred to enter under a pseudonym (Magi obviously) .... but it is unclear where you can actually request your pseudonym....

Morning JAP, could you please send email to Peter
petergibson@mweb.co.za
Thanks, Dave – Gold Circle’s IT side has had problems with the online entry although it appears inconsistent, some work fine and their assessment of it is that the software between end user and Gold Circle might be incompatible.
We’d like to communicate directly with Justanotherpunter if you were happy to send their email.
Regards
Peter
