Captain Al chases his own SA record!

Captain Al’s 19th juvenile winner; RIFLEMAN (who won at the Vaal yesterday) is said by trainer Brett Webber to be “something special”. He fought hard to beat the bunch of fancied youngsters to the line showing great courage and determination.

Captain Al’s 18th juvenile winner, the day before, was Dennis Bosch trained CAPTAIN LOVEMORE.

This season sees Captain Al again at the head of the 2yo Sires Log. It looks as if he may break the record he set as a Freshman Sire for the most number of individual juvenile winners in a season. With 10 weeks left of the current season, there is every reason for his connections to hope that he may even set another record for 2yo earnings.

Horseman, not as concerned about the countdown to the 2010 World Cup, will watch the 2yo statistics this year hoping to see this great SA bred stallion reach new heights. We have been assured by a number of the trainers who have his youngsters that they will deliver the next winner. All strengths to their arm, we are all eagerly watching.

Captain Al is also currently 2nd on the General Sires Log and climbing.

We will keep you informed.

He gets a load of winners but his record in Gr 1 races is not that of a creme-de-la-creme sire. They lack that star quality that makes a great stallion. Very good, yes. Great, no. At least, not yet. His studmate National Emblem is more likely to give you a Gr 1 horse, IMHO.

His progeny tends to not train on after showing early promise. I'm sure given time he will land his fair share of older grade one winners
