Amour Propre one of best I've trained - Candy
HENRY CANDY on Tuesday described Amour Propre as "one of the best sprinters" he has trained, as the son of Paris House continued to please during preparations for the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Winner of four of his five starts, the son of Paris House broke two track records in his juvenile season at Warwick and Bath before winning the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot in October.
He returned with a stylish win in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket last month and was installed as a general 4-1 favourite for the Group 1 on June 16.
"He did a little piece of work this morning under Dane O'Neill and appears much more relaxed," said Candy. "I don't know whether that is a good thing or a bad thing but he is in very good form with himself."
Candy is no stranger to quality sprinters having trained the talented mare Airwave, winner of the 2002 Group 1 Betfair Cheveley Park Stakes, and top sire Kyllachy, who ended his career with victory in the Group 1 Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes the same year, and believes Amour Propre is in the same league.
"He is totally different to Airwave and Kyllachy," Candy said.
"Theywere very slow out of the stalls and relaxed early on in their races, where as Amour Propre is very much on the go from the start.
"It's very hard to compare them because their style of running is so different, but I still think he is one of the best sprinters I've had."
Candy rates Amour Propre very highly but thinks his speedy star may find it hard to pass the host of international stars intending to take him on at the royal meeting.
"The international challenge looks very strong and I'm expecting a tough day out but I'm sure the race will give people a huge amount of entertainment," he said.

Dubai star Gladiatorus to reappear in Queen Anne
DUBAI DUTY FREE winner Gladiatorus, officially the leading active racehorse on the planet, will try to give new trainer Saeed Bin Suroor a remarkable eighth triumph in Tuesday's Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Previously trained in Italy, Gladiatorus has been absent since winning all of his three starts for Mubarak Bin Shafya at the Dubai Carnival earlier this year, culminating in his convincing three and a half length defeat of Presvis in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Stakes.
Shortly after that victory the son of Silic joined Saeed bin Suroor and on Tuesday the five-year-old impressed in a solo exercise under regular partner Antrioco Murgea during his first taste of the working grounds on Racecourse Side in Newmarket.
Bin Suroor said: "Gladiatorus had a break after Nad Al Sheba but is now in good form and this was his main work before the Queen Anne.
"He has been working away on our private gallop and this was only his second piece of work on grass."
Gladiatorus, who is at 127, the top rated horse onturf in the World Thoroughbred Ratings, 3lb clear of Hong Kong miler Good Ba Ba, covered six furlongs around the bend in smart fashion in his latest workout.
Published monthly, the World Thoroughbred Ratings are produced by a panel of handicappers from countries that are affiliated to the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.
