JJ the jet plane flew today

THE South African champion J J The Jet Plane went well in a solo spin at Newmarket on Thursday morning for his tilt at the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes.

Mike De Kock's speedball flew up the final five furlongs of the July Course, leaving his trainer optimistic over his prospects at Royal Ascot next Saturday.

J J The Jet Plane was a fluent winner at Windsor recently, an effort which fully confirmed both his domestic standing and his impressive romp on turf at the Dubai Carnival.

"He wasn't farshort at Windsor," De Kock said, "but this will put him right there. It is my life's ambition to win at Royal Ascot because it is one of the sport's majors.

"It's hard to say exactly where J J fits in with the top horses because he hasn't heavily competed at this level. He couldn't be better, but the 4-1 which the bookmakers have chalked up isn't value."

J J The Jet Plane is stabled atAbingdon Place, the stables of former trainer Geoff Wragg. He has become used to some mixed climatic conditions recently, but the prospect of further rain doesn't bother his own trainer.

"Soft going will be no problem," De Kock stated.

Swell pic there Hibbs.... After MDK's comments what you'll think his chances are? Sense some uncertainty from the trainer, but thats expected when coming up agianst stiff competition. When it comes to graded races, imho, I believe anyhorse can win despite the price otherwise how the hell did they get into the race in the first place.... What you'll think?

Just a cautionary regarding punting JJ ( and I, too, hope to see him win );

At 4/1 the market is telling us he has a 20% chance of winning. Alternatively -if you want to look at it another way - he would be expected to win once for every five occasions on which the race was run. Sobering.

Now - here are some other factors to consider :

He has never run at Ascot.
We do not yet know which draw will prove to be favourable on the day.
We do not yet know what the weather conditions will be.
Trainer is also going through a learning curve insofar as this event is concerned.

Far more sobering to me is the following ;

UK sprints throw up an almost unbelievable number of 'results'. Factor in a big field and selections become like a drunkard playing darts : Throw the arrow and just accept the number that goes into the frame.

At best I might have a speculative place bet but I fear 'on the nose' in this event is an out and out ( and unattractive ) gamble at 4/1. Consider this ; What do you imagine his price would have been had he not had the Windsor warmup? I fancy 16/1 - 25/1. Makes you think.

Neverthless I am confident that Saftote will return a solid 5/10 on the day!!!

JJ was around 8-1 for the Jubilee before his Windsor prep, the UK bookies have been looking out for him since Dubai and were never going to hand out any presents to his followers.

I dont see much value at 4-1 but I don't think the Jubilee is as hot as the pundits are making out, I really think JJ is the one to beat...

hmmm,I tend to agree, its not so much the Horses he faces but the unknown element of the draw bias and luck in running.

However I am 100% convinced that he has a few lenghts on the field so provided he doesn't get in too much trouble he will take all the beating imho.

8 days and counting! GO JJ GO!!!
