Ballydoyle 'looking forward' to Yeats run

YEATS was reported on Friday to be bang on target for his crack at a record-breaking fourth Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on Thursday.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien's eight-year-old will be ridden by Johnny Murtagh, before the jockey sits out the last two days of the royal meeting because of suspension.

O'Brien told the Racing Post: "It's a case of so farso good with Yeats, he seems to be fine so far. He is a year older and a year wiser and we are all looking forward to seeing him run."

O'Brien, who willtake his usual huge team to Royal Ascot, outlined running plans for later in the week.

He said: "On the Thursday we have Freemantle in the Hampton Courtand we might also run Rockhampton in the Britannia Handicap, and possibly Johann Zoffany and Changingoftheguard in the King George V Handicap.

"On Friday we have Heart Shaped in the Coronation, we hope to run Yankee Doodle and Stately Home in the Queen's Vase, and we have Black Bear Island in the King Edward.

"On Saturday in the Chesham we hope to run Beethovenand Emperor Claudius.

Ryan Moore is 5/4 from 6/4 with Sky Bet following heavy support to be leading rider over the five days of Royal Ascot next week.

The Champion jockey, who broke his duck at the meeting last year, is a warm order to lift the coveted trophy for the first time along with Richard Hughes, who is 5/1 from 6s.

Johnny Murtagh is easy to back with Sky Bet as his failure to overturn a ban that clashes with Royal Ascot has seen his price ease out to 3/1 from 11/4.

Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: "Johnny Murtagh, who misses the last two days of Royal Ascot, is up against it and Ryan Moore has been backed to profit most from the hammer blow to last year's leading rider's chances of retaining his title."

Master cut as Ascot favourites prove popular

MASTERCRAFTSMAN could soon be a universal odds-on favourite for the St James's Palace Stakes after two more major firms came in line with those layers who believe that the Boylesports Irish 2,000 Guineas winner is more likely to win than lose at Royal Ascot.

The triple Group 1 victor is into 10-11 from 11-10 with William Hill and the same odds-on price from evens with Skybet, although chief rivals Delegator (4-1 from 5-1 with William Hill) and Evasive (5-1 from 6-1 with Victor Chandler) were also shortened on Saturday.

A trio of runners in Wednesday's highlight, the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, have been supported. Saturday's most notable gamble was on Henry Cecil's Twice Over, into 7-1 from 10-1 with Victor Chandler. French hope Never On Sunday is 9-2 from 5-1 with William Hill and Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes winner Virtual is 8-1 from 10-1 with Paddy Power.

Triple Gold Cup hero Yeats is now 9-4 across the board for a groundbreakingfourth win in the race after Paddy Power gave up on their 5-2 quote.

Other ante-post favourites trimmed on a busy day for bookmakers were Coventry Stakes hotpot Canford Cliffs (2-1 from 9-4 with Boylesports and William Hill), Royal Hunt Cup jolly Forgotten Voice (9-2 from 11-2 with William Hill) and High Standing (7-1 from 8-1 for the Wokingham Stakes with Victor Chandler).

In the Queen Mary Stakes, Rose Blossom has been cut two points into 5-1 by Victor Chandler

Candy delighted with draw for Amour Propre

HENRY CANDY expressed his delight on Sunday that Amour Propre, Britain's leading hope at Royal Ascot to thwart the fierce speed challenge from overseas, will compete from stall six in Tuesday's £300,000 Group 1 King's Stand Stakes.

"Coming from six will be fine because it will give Dane O'Neill options," said Candy of his cheaply bought speedball, who is a top-priced 100-30 with Coral, William Hill, Sportingbet and Victor Chandler.

Candy, seeking his first Royal Ascot winner since Pipedreamer won the Royal Hunt Cup 30 years ago, reported Amour Propre to be in fine shape, and the trainer was encouraged that the ground on the straight course looks likely to ride on the fast side.

"I don't believe the ground will be a problem, even if they do decide to put on more water, because it can't make too much difference at this stage," he added.

Amour Propre made nearly all the running on the nearside rail from stall one when successful over course and distance last year in the Group 3 Willmott Dixon Cornwallis Stakes. Ground conditions that day were officially good to soft, which Candy considers to be easier than ideal for the son of Paris House.

If the ante-post market has called it right, his most potent danger will be Australia's Scenic Blast, whose jockey Steven Arnold will have fewer options than O'Neill from the widest stall of all, in 15. Scenic Blast is a top-priced 7-2
