WELL DONE SHAHEEN

Shaheen Shaw has shown again that he is world-class and streets ahead of his 'smoke blowing up the butt' colleagues.
After the commentary on race 4 today at Clairwood , Sheldon Peters was in raptures and exclaimed 'the punters win again!'as First Impression passed the post first.
Shaw was quick on the uptake(and audibly irritated) when he said that the commentator was overlooking the many backers of the Tarry horse Jazzy Drum. As Shaheen pointed out it was crazy to suggest that everybody wins in a two horse race where the second fav finishes fourth - and this was borne out again when the min pa dividends were give and almost half the tickets were down the drain.

I have nothing against Sheldon - but at least Shaheen has the gonads to say how he feels and speak his mind - a lone voice in a sea of mediocrity but at least its a starT and light years on from his smearing jam on the mouth of all and sundry colleagues.

So right Butch..SS so superior in the studio.

A lot of presenters need to understand that no matter what the result, there are normally at least as many unhappy punters as happy ones, and the last thing a punter needs, when he's done his money, is some smartass suggesting that only an idiot would have done so!EVERY RESULT PLEASES(or DISAPPOINTS) SOMEBODY.
SS has a good knowledge of racing and more importantly understands the human nature of the average punter.

I still think that he was on Jazzy Drum - hence the irritation

Capone may very well be correct, but as Rob says , the down the tube punters at least need and get some recompense at that moment.
His overall performance is balanced and frank - a bit of heart and a bit of the head - not lips on butt like his hopeless colleagues.

I havent posted in a year now but I personally think Shaheen is as good as they come in the studio, juggling so many races and giving all the info he does takes some skill.

Commentating is not easy, only the true pro's can really keep the punters excited and call the winners from some way out!

I am literally tired of hearing Sheldon Peter's commentary, the tone of his voice becomes higher and his choice of words tell you that a horse has more than a fair shout at winning. It's only when you come to the post, the other horse got up from nowhere. This happens many a time and I am not talking from my pocket.

Clyde is the best by a country mile, but I do sincerely hope that Sheldon calms down a bit and call the horses as they are running and not what he thinks it will finish. Take a que from the American races, the commentary is sometimes in a monotonous voice but you surely know whats happening, when Sheldon is commentating I prefer to put the volume at zero.

Pirates hit it on the nail.
Commentators should not be showman - Thirty's 'sexual intellectuals' has me puzzled but his point is made. C'mon Sheldon - listen to the dour Jehan Malherbe - I don't think he could get excited if a naked Miss World won the July on one of his Brazillian imports - but he is businesslike and gets the picture across.
Take the hint and cut the frills

The problem is we are all whinging but the king of mediocrity and bulldust is now in charge of the Tellytrack interviewers.I know he posts on ABc, but that dos not detract from the reality that Presenter is hardly the man to effect change - we need a Shaw and Laff type guy to come in and to make new rules - quality and frank comment from interviewing staff - bullet the rest.
In fairness, Molly is also good, while guest-wise Charl Pretorius could be given a bit more free rein to have his say.
Tellytrack changes:
Axe list: Pretorius/Kritsiotis/Knowles
Promote: Shaw/Lafferty/ Mthembu/Dyanand/Mollet
Final warning letters: Elley/Jules/Mccurdy/Lithgow

Otherwise just give us a racing channel - commentaries and betting and races - no talking in between - just like the international stuff in the evenings.

I see your man got an award yesterday from the WPOTA - for services to Cape racing.

Surely this is a dangerous precedent? I don't believe we should be idolising living middle aged salaried guys who are actually just doing their jobs and earning big bucks out of the game.
What about men like Molly, Charl Pretorius, Mike De Kock, James Maree, Robin Bruss, Lionel Cohen, Micky Goss - there are so many guys who have devoted their lives to the game .
I know WPOTA have ack'd Peter Kannemeyer and Terrance Millard , Stanley Amos - but that's only because Rodney Dunn is different league when it comes to sentimentality and the love of the game - he is not on a conquest to take over Phumelelela and run GC and appreciates that we need to create heroes...

But Neil Pretorius? Naaaah c'mon guys - we haven't even erected a statue or plaque of Pocket Power yet at Kenilworth.

Then what about the fallen heroes of yesteryear( sure some of them have themselves to blame) ??
Bert Abercrombie (when last I heard) on the bones of his arse, penniless and very ill. Jimmy Anderson - living in the Starvation Army hostel next door Greyville.
