South African Bookies win hands down
15 years 11 months ago
Ladbrokes have opened a book for the July, but they seem a bit off with some of the prices.. By the way Ladbrokes are famous for going short on the favourites they fancy and its a good sign when they are shorter than everyone else on a favourite,so good vibes for Pocket power..
ps first time i seen a South A frican race priced up in the uk
..Dual horse of the year Pocket Power has been installed as 6-4 favourite with Ladbrokes to win Saturday's Durban July at Greyville.
Pocket Power is bidding to give weight away all round in the Grade 1 handicap, in which he dead-heated last year with Dancer's Daughter.
Durban July
Ladbrokes: 6-4 Pocket Power, 4 River Jetz, 7 Kapil, 8 Big City Life, 14 Our Giant, 14 Smart Banker, 16 Tropical Empire, 16 Zirconeum, 20 Aluminium, 20 Buy And Sell, 33 bar

Not every day the UK bookies get to bet to between 135% and 140%. They are probably expecting no interest beyond the 20/1 shots hence the short odds on the market leaders. Different here where there will be money on the day for everything and yet the odds on just about everything will shorten.
Just my opinion of course. If you are going to bet a short one do it now.

Happily we all now live in an environment where we can see who is doing what and act ( or bet ) accordingly.
I am sure our bookmakers would welcome an influx of pounds from UK interests wanting to 'get on' in the July. However - they might be quite surprised and disappointed when they are only offered a monkey of the horse at the price by some of our outlets!

Besides for the claims which are shared by 5 bookmakers, who will lay bets of R200k on the jump...
