J J running over 1400m tuesday

SOUTH AFRICAN star J J The Jet Plane will be stepped up to seven furlongs for the first time in almost two years for Tuesday's Group 2 Betfair Cup at Glorious Goodwood.

The Mike De Kock-trained five-year-old finished fourth to Art Connoissuer when 5-2 favourite for the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot before going to improve a place in the Group 1 Darley JulyCup at Newmarket on his latest start when beaten a length and three quarter by Fleeting Spirit.

De Kock said: "He seems to be running on at the finish over six furlongs in the July Cup and we think he should be competitive over seven furlongs at Goodwood.

"It's not a hard seven furlongs and he should be fine. He won over seven furlongs but that was 18 months ago and ever since he been confined to race over five and six furlongs."

Up in distance, down in class. That could do the trick but the weights could be important. I don't know this particular race but I think that there are a lot of Gr 2 etc races where Gr 1 wins incur stiff penalties.

Main Aim is also in line up.
