Win four in a row.
Ran second and get dropped two points.

He virtually never runs to his rating. Yes, he wins races, but if you do the math he is almost invariably some way below his MR. Anybody who thinks winning races should equal automatic increases in MR is confusing merit ratings with the old race figure system.

magiclips unfortunately or in some cases fortunately for some the merit rating system is still not understood..

Sometimes, pirates, you would swear that it is more complicated than putting a man on Mars or performing a brain transplant, when it actually is not a very difficult principle at all.

Wouldn`t happen to Fair Brutus...

Maybe, hib, because Fair Brutus doesn't run solely in plate races the way Hear The Drums does. It's simple maths with Hear The Drums to work out what he is achieving as against what the numbers say he should be achieving.

Not that I'm defending the handicappers. That is merely my take on the situation. I know what it's like to have a horse begging to have its MR dropped, but which never seems to happen. Our mare Island Groove is in the same unfortunate boat at the moment.
