What makes sense to me would be for Phumu.Gold to do a franchise type deal with Betfair because if they remain stubborn they will lose out to an exchange opening in a neighbouring country(in the common currency arrangement) like Swaziland(who would welcome the tax)and would operate as Piggs Peak did for Poker.
That has to be an option if the Gambling board maintain their present position.

Such fun.
Juddmonte at York.
Four runners.
Betfair traded 3.5 million pounds, of which 3 million on the winner Sea The Stars.
In SA the race would have been cancelled.

We've had Betfair representatives post on this forum before - is there no way we can get a comment from them ?

andrewest, as a serious (bordering on professional) punter with an analytical mindset, have you considered the applicability of the constitution to the fact that you are penalised the punter tax when you choose to bet at fixed odds, and yet are not so penalised when betting on the tote?
or that you are penalised the punter tax when you bet on racing, and yet are not so penalised when you win on a soccer bet, or at the casino, or on a LPM, or indeed on the Lotto?
with the greatest of respect to karel, such questions seem of more significance than whether or not you can see the racing stream on betfair.

I will analyse the various statements...bets..check the tax etc..
sports bets..i am clueless..need to go and understand the flow..
casino..I am clueless..will check with scott cullingworth of iswe hospitality at turfontein..he worked in that industry..
lotto - what I do know..
audit process is an eyeblind...
they show the auditors at the start...
tell you the auditors have audited the ballsets.. total 49 balls..
lotto starts...
draw 6 balls + bonus..
auditors do not want to audit the remaining 49 balls...ie..complete the audit process...
thats how you get 20 winners in one week..
that's right...there are still 49 balls left in the unit after the draw..

Andre
About 6 years ago or so when we had a Christmas draw for 10 million they charged us £5 a ticket. When the draw was made they guy shouting out the numbers when they came out was calling the numbers before they came out. The Lottos excuse...oh time delay and some other bullshit.

Unless the auditors dump all the balls from the unit...real tv...
place them in numerical order while the tv audience is watching...
one has to come to the conclusion that....
they are ripping off the poor....
stealing them blind...
their own people...
sad..

OSCAR...
SARS..
if they want money...best they get a job....
they ain't gonne get money from JSE listed companies..
all +840 are going to post a tax loss...no tax this year
all +840 are going to carry the tax loss forward...no tax for the next 3 years
or from the employees..
1,000,000 less tax paying employees by december 2009...their own stats..
only 7,000,000 tax paying employees in any case...
or from transfer duty on property..
market collapsed..
or from import taxes...
we now have a surplus..imports are down...
exports are down..
they budgeted an income of R668B or something for this year..by nov 2008..
won't see R200B...
the rest they will have to borrow...
SARS might as well close down till 2016...
