Australia: International raiders on the Group 1 Tatts Cox Plate in October at Moonee Valley will be guaranteed a pay-out of A$100,000 (£50,000/€58,560).
The Moonee Valley Racing Club's (MVRC) announced the incentive recently in a bid to attract more international visitors for Australia's leading weight-for-age contest on October 24.
This year's Cox Plate will have a guaranteed prize fund of A$3m (£1.5m/€1.7m) this year, with prize-money paid down to eighth place.
By offering A$100,000 to connections of internationally trained runners who finish outside the first eight, Moonee Valley officials are hoping to attract a more cosmopolitan line-up than in recent years.
Foreign raiders are traditionally thin on the ground, with only seven taking part in the last decade. Godolphin's Grandera has fared best of them, when third to Northerly in 2002.
MVRC chairman Bob Scarborough said: "With the Tatts Cox Plate positioned around the same time as the Breeders' Cup, the Club believes that the guarantee of $100,000 will greatly assist us in attracting some of the best middle-distance gallopers in the world to compete at Moonee Valley."
The MVRC has announced a record level of prize money ahead of the 2009/10 season, with total stakes raised by over A$2.5m on last year.
The increased level of prize money at Moonee Valley will also see all Group 2 races at the track in Victoria carry a minimum level of A$200,000, up from $180,000, while all the fund for Group 3 races will be increased to A$150,000, up by $25,000.
"In raising black-type prize money, Moonee Valley will attract the highest calibre horses, which will provide a platform to elevate existing black-type races, and also create new black-type races for the club," Scarborough said.
