The point that is interesting is that, recently,at least 7 or 8 of these horses that "probably" won't win,but have, have been backed....who is it in the stables that are far better judges than the trainers?

Well Rob would you have let it return 6/1 if you thought it would go close?

Going close is a place....someone thought it would win!..and backed up the opinion with cash.I believe the connections,I just wonder if stable staff hold back sometimes!

Rob,

Thats exaclty what I'm saying. I believe the connections probably did not know (we have been IN those situations before) but who keeps on backing these horses and they keep on winning?

Not sure we will ever find out

Some years ago I went to Gosforth park to watch my horse have its first run and I had been told not to have a bet..needed the run badly.
By the time I got on the course,it was already in to 7/2 and came in further to 5/2.I was sitting with the trainer who was perplexed...the horse got beat a head.
No one could explain!

Rob,

We had something similar a while back. We were told one of our fillies was working well but could need the run. When we got on course she was backed in from 10/1 to 22/10 and came home lonely despite losing 3 lengths at the start.

The owners I'm afraid should make up their own minds and if they feel they should back their horses then they should do so......Don't wait for a trainer, jockey, farrier, garden boy to tell them to do so, just do it!!!!
