Had a look at the prize horse in Johnny Vos' yard. I hope the jockey has short legs. Great competition concept.

suggestion for summer cup day. Advertise that the first 5,000 or 1st 10,000 ( Depending on P's bdget )people through the gates at Big T get a betting voucher for R 150.00 per entrant. ( this means it costs P R100.00 P.P.)
Entrance fee at the gate is R 50.00 p.p. this is so that you can keep the dregs off the race course, & only the real punters / racegoers will attend.
This entrance fee complete with betting vouchers to be applied to each and every person who comes on course - be it RA members, Honarary members etc. Or No entrance fee paid, obviously no betting voucher.
What turnover could be churned out if there were 10 or even 20 thousand people on course.Once the betting voucher has been used up, they will start to use their own cash.
Will they have enough A.T.M. machines on course to enable you to withdraw that extra cash ? will they have enough QUALIFIED TOTE OPERATORS in attendance.
This is just a suggestion. It's time for Mr Robert Garner & his marketing commitee to put their thinking caps on to try & entice the public to come to Joburgs biggest race day. It's only 2 months away, & I'm sure advertising this race day will probably only take place a month before the big race.IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET THINGS GOING.
Think OUTSIDE THE BOX ! Let's make this years Summer Cup day attendance the best we've had this century ( in Joburg that is )
The vibe at the Met & at the July has not been experienced here in Joburg, or certainly not in the last 15 odd years.

as a young person myself, i see no point in promoiting this game or trying to attract ppl to a game where winning money is so horribly hard. clearly if ppl are making money they can easily invite others into 'making money' and the game would advertise itself. horse racing is an intersting sport but i think a lot needs to be done to educate the average punter. it is a well known fact that ppl lose money week after week in this game, in fact statistically speaking 97% of punters in this game lose money on a continous basis. so why 'attrack' ppl into something like that?

Keniza don`t you think the social aspect of Horse racing is as important as the punting side?
Contrary to popular belief we are not all in racing to make our fortunes, infact most of us are in racing to spend our fortunes, and most of us treat it as it should be treated a pastime...
Who wouldn`t enjoy an afternoon, drinking, eating, gambling ,mixing with friends?
and who`s to say it costs more than taking up golf or similar hobbies?

mr hawaii, this thread I started has ovbiously hit a nerve, cause there's been close on 600 viewings in 2 days.
what started off as possibly a negative responce from myself, has turned around 360 degrees I believe, and a LOT of positive feedback has landed up on this thread.
All I ask of you is that after your meeting tomorrow, you do your best to enquire if any of your staff members did in fact promise free betting vouchers to entice young achievers to the course.( you say you did not, & you say Peter N did not - but what about your staff )
A simple yes or no would be suffice. Good night, case closed.

Andre fair point..ownership comes to a crunch when you get your training vet and other bills month after month after month with no runners..with just two horses your monthly costs will pay off a bond of at least R1.5m
Whats more important to a young achiever..buying a house or paying for two hungry horses?
