J J the Jet plane Finishing 3rd at Newbury on saturday

J J the Jet Plane is to step back upto 1200m next sunday in the grp2 JOHN GUEST DIADEM STAKES at Ascot.

"It was very encouraging seeing JJ run so well in the big sprint, and we will step him back up to six furlongs and have a crack at the Diadem Stakes at Ascot next weekend," said trainer Richard Hannon.

"It has been frustrating, but he improved in each of his three runs for us and sometimes it takes a while for a horse to settle down in new surrounds.

"We are getting to know him, and him us, and Jimmy (Fortune) was very positive about him on Saturday, so he'll definitely be going to Ascot.

"Fast ground suits JJ The Jet Plane," he told richardhannonracing.tv.

Sorry if im like a broken record,but i still think J J has a big win in him and so does Richard Hannon if you go by the above statement..

GO GO THE JET PLANE!!!!

I am sure only the late great Buddy Maroun used to do this with his runners, nothing wrong.

It really is difficult to change mindset into how they do things over in the UK. We're so used to 4 or 5 weeks between runs, but then we have year round racing.

I want to make an analogy here to another sport. In fact a sporting movie....

This seems to me like when Kevin Costner starred in the golfing movie "Tin Cup". On the last hole at the US Open when he should just lay up and take his drop to go to a playoff for one of the biggest tournaments in the world.....What does he do?????
He askes for another ball as he KNOWS he can make the shot. He misses. Then he askes for another ball!!!! I can make this shot!!!!!
He misses another three times, but then with the last ball in his bag.....If he does not make this he gets disqualified.....He gives uit his all one more time and sinks a 240 foot 3 wood to score a memorable 12 on the last hole!!!!!

I hope JJ sinks a 240 foot 3 wood on Saturday, I really do!!

Grip it and rip it JJ!!!!!! We are all behind you!

Just for the sake of interest, I've complied a list of JJ's times for all his runs to date. I know there are many issues regardings times; surface, pace, going, accuracy etc. but it still makes for interesting reading.

Here are all his times, listed from fastest pace (time per metre) to slowest. Obviously shorter races should be run at a faster pace. I've used the metric trips for SAF and Dubai, and converted the UK furlong races to metres - hopefully I've got those right.

67.07 (.05589) => SAF 1200m (Gr1, 1st)
67.62 (.05635) => SAF 1200m (Gr1, 1st)
63.03 (.05730) => SAF 1100m (3yo Gr3, 1st)
69.65 (.05771) => ENG 1207m (Listed, 4th)
69.93 (.05794) => ENG 1207m (Gr1, 3rd)
60.19 (.05804) => ENG 1037m (Gr3, 3rd)
69.85 (.05821) => SAF 1200m (Gr2, 1st)
58.44 (.05844) => SAF 1000m (Gr1, 1st)
82.54 (.05896) => SAF 1400m (3yo Gr3, 1st)
71.28 (.05906) => ENG 1207m (Listed, 1st)
71.72 (.05977) => UAE 1207m (Gr3, 1st)
73.09 (.06091) => SAF 1200m sand (Mdn, 1st)
67.07 (.06097) => UAE 1100m sand (Conditions, 6th)
98.87 (.06179) => SAF 1600m (3yo Gr2, 10th)
87.46 (.06212) => ENG 1408m (Gr2, 7th)
100.25 (.06266) => SAF 1600m (3yo Gr2, 5th)
75.75 (.06276) => ENG 1207m (Gr1, 4th)
117.58 (.06532) => SAF 1800m (3yo Listed, 3rd)
80.54 (.06673) => ENG 1207m (Gr1, 14th)

Great stuff Sabre,looks like He is running close to his best?

On the goings Richard Hannon described South African soft going like "our" Firm in an interview.(it`s Africa they don`t get rain)

Got to say don`t think J J has ran on Rattlingly(just invented a word?) Fast ground in the UK yet!

Also reading between the lines of the race last saturday,from comments Hannon and Fortune made,i think Fortune was surprised how well J J stuck on and if he had got stuck into him more J J might have gone close to winning last week..

JJ's SAF times are clearly better than his ENG ones, but it's probably almost all due to the softer/slower ground.

Take his best SAF pace and best ENG pace. They're more than 2 full seconds apart over 1200 metres, or about 11 lengths. The .06276 when he was 4th in that Gr1 shows just how slow the track was that day; he ran at a faster pace than that when 10th over 1600 metres back home!

I really would like to see him take on a world class field on a really fast surface but there probably aren't too many around like in Gauteng.
