Scotia on the Emerald Cup long weekend.
15 years 8 months agoGood morning all and I am sure the place to be this weekend is the Vaal for the Emerald Cup.
Well at this stage the highlight of the week has been getting my face on the goggle box, or plasma if you live in Sandton.
I hope you have seen the posts and pictures on the site of "Winning Ways"?, but just to give you some background.
I was up at 4.00 on the plane 5.50 in a R250 taxi from the airport to Greyville and time for a quick cup of coffee before the action starts.
Trust me when I say the action starts at 10.00, it does, Raymond and his team are ready to Rock and Roll as soon as James and Paul walk into the studio.
When I say studio, not what I expected, when I asked "where is the make up room?" the young lady behind the camera offered me a Koki pen.
Goodman and Lafferty get changed from the boot of their cars, so the wardrobe dept, is also not exactly what I had envisaged.
You must remember when we watch Tellytrack, I have seen on the screen Julies hair done by ? clothes by ? make up by? catering by?
With this team, its a different ball game and they are all so delighted with the facility that Graeme Hawkins from Gold Circle has provided and they all have a great attitude working together.
The show you see its exactly what is taped, no stops, no breaks, no edit, the camera runs and the improvisation and repotoire between them both is a pleasure to watch, although panicking that I will be on next, but James just guides you through the interview and its over in a flash, with one left thinking, did I say the right things, did I say too much or too little?
Had all my notes, gave a copy to James, he rolls them up, puts them in the bin and says "lets Rock and Roll Scotia" and that's the last I remember.
We finish with a 5 star scuttle(probably used to also transmit the signal) braai cooked by James and a bottle of JWB for scotia, I get a lift back to the airport from Paul, and before I know it, I am back in Pretoria watching the show.
I would just like to say thanks again to James, Paul and Raymond and his team for a fantastic experience and keep up the good work.
Have just noticed that the show has been "cut" you can still watch the preview for the Wednesday night meeting, that did not take place, but the complaints about the shocking local coverage for SA raceday at Newmarket and the excellent report from Paul on the events that took place and obviously the ABC interview has gone. Its a poor show from Tellytrack, it would appear that Paula Abdul would be a suitable candidate to run Tellytrack "one step forward and two steps back".
The stats for ABC continue to be great, this is yesterdays:
23 Sep 2009: 813 unique visits, 10327 pages, 31637 hits, bandwidth 389.37 MB
So thanks again to our sponsors and the continued contributions from the posters.
Full betting and all the latest banter leading up to the Cup will be posted on the site over the weekend.
Good punting and may your God be with you.

Dear Dave
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your interview with James Goodman earlier this week - and must say that if you represent the face of the punter - then it is an appealing face and good for the non-betting public to see!
So often we see South African punters whose personas are not quite as we'd like our kids to turn out like, so take some credit for presenting an excellent model for our embattled industry.
I am off to Sweden over the wekend for 10 days - the Swedish trotting industry has afforded us an entire "SA Theme Day" at their massive Kriteria race-meeting festival in Stockholm in early October. We have 4 races sponsored on the day and there will be all sorts of prizes, such as 2 donated air-tickets to SA, on offer, a mini exhibition, Ambassadorial presence and more - pretty much in the same theme as what was done at Newmarket last weekend.
We are trying to entice more foreign domiciled (particularly Swedish) owners of trotters to race and breed horses in KZN.
Our next trotting race takes place at Greyville tomorrow night - just hoping the rain stays away!
Its amazing how absorbing and wonderful this harness racing can become - even for thoroughbred purists like myself - with some knowledge and exposure to the sport.

yes the budget of winning ways is the same of the cost of julies hair appointment BUT IT IS 6 DIVISIONS BETTER THAN THE SHOWS MR NICO DOES FOR TELLYCRAP..it helps when you know what you are talking about and you talk about issues that are facing the industry instead of painting pretty pictures like the propaganda boys at tellymuck
