TAB is changing its Pick 6 and Jackpot carryover policy from Thursday 1 October in a move that will make both bets more enjoyable and offer bigger payouts for horseplayers. Currently Pick 6 and Jackpot carryovers go forward to the next race meeting in the racing region in which they originated with the exception of Flamingo Park fixtures in Kimberley, which go to the next weekend race meeting on the Highveld. From 1 October, Pick 6 carryovers will be accumulated into a weekly Pick 6 MegaPool in the same way as Quartet and Trifecta carryovers.
In terms of the new policy, Pick 6 carryovers on all South African and international race meetings will go forward to a selected South African race meeting each weekend (Saturday or Sunday), regardless of the meeting from which they originated. The carryover cycle will run from Thursday to Wednesday, both days inclusive, with all Pick 6 carryovers in those seven days being channelled into a Pick 6 MegaPool on the selected South African race meeting on the weekend. Jackpot carryovers will be accumulated into a monthly Jackpot MegaPool on a selected South African race meeting, regardless of the race meeting at which they arose.
The carryover cycle will run from Thursday before the previously selected weekend carryover meeting until the Wednesday before the next selected weekend carryover meeting. “The current carryover format has gone stale,” said Robert Garner, Phumelela’s General Manager Marketing and Communications.
“Small carryovers do not generate any excitement and in the instance of say a Vaal Thursday Pick 6 carryover to a Saturday Turffontein meeting, many horseplayers are not even aware of the carryover becAus
e of the short timeframe.” “The new format will allow more time to inform horseplayers of the carryover and going forward there will be instances where several small carryovers will combine to generate a substantial Pick 6 or Jackpot MegaPool,” he added.
Horseplayers should also note that all Pick 3 carryovers on South African racing go into a Pick 3 MegaPool on Races 6, 7 and 8 at a selected South African race meeting on the last Saturday of each month. All Pick 3 carryovers on international racing, with the exception of those from Dubai races, go into a Pick 3 Megapool on the last pool on offer the following day, irrespective of the meeting from which the carryover/s originated.
From 1 October TAB will operate a Jackpot pool on the last 4 races on all international race meetings (excluding Aus
tralia, New Zealand and Sweden) if 4 or more races at the race meeting are scheduled for broadcast on Tellytrack. Horseplayers are reminded that couplings and first-timer rules do not apply to Jackpot or Pick 6 pools on international races. Currently Mauritius, Kenya and Zimbabwe are the only international races on which TAB operates a Pick 6 pool. Pick 3 pools will be in operation on the last 3 races of all international race meetings if 3 or more races at the meeting are scheduled for broadcast on Tellytrack.

TAB writes...
...in a move that will make both bets more enjoyable and offer bigger payouts for horseplayers.
Are they implying that we are bound to see many more carry overs..
like in 1 or 2 carry overs per week...to increase the P6 pool.....offer bigger payouts....
how are they going to do this...
pay the jockeys too..to pull the horses...
or are they going to put money from their pockets..to the pools...
where will the extra money come from...to offer bigger payouts...

I am happy that they do realise the value of this bet and believe that its a step in the right direction.
Have to agree with AW on this - there are not carry overs every week and perhaps they should be looking at constantly creating Mega pools. The lotto would disappear if they had to do draws as and when. People know that they can have a go twice a week.
Someone suggested on Freeracer that the operators should look at reducing their income by 0.5% to 1% to consistently create the megapool.
I still wish that I could have a go at the Scoop 6. A working concept that is highly publicised. We all know who the potential winner could be and what he /she stands to win and the hype drummed up around this.

This is a sideways move..
definately not a move into the correct direction..
since when will a sideways move be deemed as a move in the correct direction?
a sideways move to create chaos.
In chaos we hopefully find oppertunities..?
Never the less, A move was due.
So we make a sideways move, until we figure out a plan of action.
Both the RA and Phumelela are striving to get more people involved.
The RA wants more owners, hence their effort with achievers day.
Phumelela want more punters, but no effort locally.
Maybe the need for a PUNTERS ASSOSIATION which Phumelela will sponsor.
Then Phumelela can outsource the responsibility and accountability to the PUNTERS ASSOSIATION to do a national recruitment and training program of punters for the tote.
Afterall Phumelela cannot be seen recruiting or encouraging the public to gamble in the current economic state of depression.
The church and the social organisations will slaughter Phumelela.
