Dubai star Honour Devil second on first US start
Report: USA, Wednesday
Belmont Park
DUAL Dubai Classic-winner Honour Devil, making his US debut for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, split horses late in the straight to finish second behind easy winner Rising Moon, the 9-5 favourite, at Belmont Park on Wednesday.
Late money took Honour Devil to the 2-1 second choice under Rajiv Maragh for the 1m½f event on dirt, and the horse sat a comfortable fourth after getting away from the gate in good fashion.
Honour Devil was taken back to last save one in the eight-horse field coming to the turn so Maragh could get him off the rail, then put in his late spurt for his placing as Rising Moon cruised down the middle of the track under Ramon Dominguez for his victory.
Honour Devil, winner of last year's UAE 2,000 Guineas and Derby for former trainer Mike De Kock, had not run since a useful runner-up effort in a Group 3 event at the Dubai Carnival in March.
