Merit rating appeal upheld

#73423
An Appeal was lodged by Part-Owner Mr D L Brugman on behalf of the horse EX UNITAE VIRES against the Turf Merit Rating of 89 that was allocated after running third in the R135 000 Goldfields Sprint, a listed race over 1200m at the Turffontein Racecourse on 10 October 2009.

An independent panel consisting of Messrs K Miedema, P Davis and J Malherbe was convened to hear this Appeal on 21 October 2009 via a teleconference.

The Panel were of the unanimous opinion that a more appropriate line horse to assess the level of the race to be the runner up MARY LOU (MR 87) and not ONEHUNDREDACREWOOD as determined by the Handicapping Panel and therefore upheld the objection and amended EX UNITAE VIRES’s MR to its original 83. The winner FLYING PRINCESS’ new MR would be 89.

The deposit will be refunded.
