Final(NOT!!) Acceptance! What a joke!
15 years 7 months ago
I'd like the rules of final acceptance to be explained to me - I had a horse nominated for a race - we accepted during the prescibed period - seven horses scratched and we were left with a field of seven runners. Now we need eight horses to make up a race (This I have no problem with) We have our draws and then find that scratched horses come back into the race after the 10 am cut off time so that it can be declared a race - these horses are reinstated with their PREVIOUS draws - this is grossly unfair on those other runners that have accepted to run. Surely the reinstated horses should lose their barrier positions and have to fill in the last draws? Also the trainers that accept are not then called to find out if they'd still like to run considering horse XYZ has come back into the race? This is a very unfair practice that needs to be sorted out. Maybe Vee could help?

Thanks to Raf and Vee for feedback
Hi Dave
If we have a field of 7 or less runners in a race, trainers of all horses scratched are called and given the opportunity to re-instate. This is done in order to "save" the race. Most times trainers who have declared are aware as we are transparent on the Net.
Barrier position is done at time of Entries and in terms of Racing Operators Condition under no circumstances do we re-draw for any race.
Calling a trainer to re-instate and then telling him that his barrier position will be changed, I believe we will have no chance of saving races.

Not good enough! If a trainer decides not to accept then is asked to come back into the race AFTER 10 am he should lose his barrier position as he was not a runner at declarations and should forfeit that right. What then happens to my horse if i see that there are now an extra 3 runners in the race that were withdrawn and i now want to take my horse out as it no longer suites me to race there - my horse is then suspended for two weeks? no really this is a bad rule! rather insitute a clause saying that trainers can nominate runners with an emergency acceptor status should the need arise to save a race(this would also save time as the operator could then reinstate the first emergency accptor without having to phone all the "scratched trainers" - no harm then as everyone can see the status of the scratched runner and make the calculation whether the horse will come back in or not

Why bother to save this race? Only seven runners - why did you not scrap this "race" or has it been saved so that there are eight races on the program?
www.formgrids.co.za/subscriber/fgRaceCar...2009-11-03,VAAL,2,ZA Here is another race with two emergency runners (I'm sure there could have been more) Why not split this race and see if there were two further maidens so you could make two fields of eight?

There's Always a logical explanation for these apparent inconsistencies.

Save a race? Seems like someone is full of porky pies - Please explain how FIVE runners can EVER be more important than 7? How inconsistent can you be!! I will take this race as being on record and if I again see a seven horse field at 10 am and then afterwards "trainers are invited to reinstate" I think certain people will have to explain the bending of rules to me and all the other owners that can count past seven!! Stop making a fool of us rather tell us that if you are not a big enough owner/s the race will be scrapped if there are less than 7 acceptors otherwise we race with five or less to please a few people. This is how you sour owners to the game and teach them that it's all about money. DISGRACEFUL conduct!!

Mr H, it is discretionary and a race that amounts to a Feature race prep will often survive with less than 8 runners. In Gauteng especially.
