Pebbles v Zenyatta v Zarkava
15 years 7 months ago
We recently had a thread asking the forum if they thought Sea The Stars was the "Greatest" and many probably still full of the memories of his Arc win said:" Hell yeah", Others came up with a list as long as Jet Masters ahem, who they regarded as a good as or better than Sea the stars.
This takes me to sundays post by Tommyhotspur stating that he had seen the Best Colt and Filly of his lifetime this very year in Sea the Stars and Zenyatta, and who am i to disagree with him.
In the last year or two there has been many brilliant Fillies,Zarkava,Goldikova,Zenyatta,Rachel Alexandra, too many to mention.
So saying that Zenyatta is the "greatest " might not be as cut and dry as it was with Seat the Stars.
My personal favourite and imo well out infront of the above would be Pebbles.
Trained by Clive Brittain at Newmarket and owned by Sheik Mohammed Al Maktoum for most of her Career. She started her career with with 2 wins as a 2yo and 2 places in the Lowther and the Cheverley park. After Winning the Nell GWynn and the 1000 Guineas as a 3yo she was sold to Sheik Mohammed and wen`t on to finish second in the Coronation stakes and the Champion Stakes.
It was as a 4yo that she really stamped her self as a "great"
Winning the Eclipse and becoming the first filly to do so beating the great Rainbow quest, then going on to win the Champion Stakes(beating Slip Anchor)and ending the year winning the 1985 Breeders Cup Turf Breeders cup replay
In 1985, Pebbles defeated the winners of the Epsom Derby, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Juddmonte International, Irish Champion Stakes, English Champion Stakes, Epsom Oaks, Arlington Million, Hollywood Gold Cup, and Breeders' Cup Turf.

Morning Hibby cheers for the post, one that comes to mind, but even scotia was a bit young was
"Petite Etoile" (foaled 1956) was a filly of the highest quality, but her success would hardly have been anticipated by those who saw her in her first race as a two-year-old when she was beaten by eight lengths in a two-horse race. After that, though, she never looked back and Petite Etoile claimed the honours in the Free Handicap on her first appearance at three, before taking the 1,000 Guineas. Not everyone was sure she would stay the one and a half miles of the Epsom Oaks but she did so without problem and went on to triumph in the Sussex Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks and Champion Stakes. In 1960, she easily beat the 1959 Epsom Derby winner, Parthia, before losing the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes to Agressor in what has long been regarded as a race in which other jockeys combined to make things difficult for Lester Piggott. As a five-year-old Petite Etoile claimed a second Coronation Cup and was also victorious in three other races. She retired as a winner of 14 races worth £72,626. However, in subsequent years, her career as a broodmare was nothing short of disastrous.
However at this stage we have been spoilt, I have to go for Zenyatta, I felt the nature of the win on Sat was spectacular.
