whats the purpose of kimberly racing

surely this centre should be catering for horses that are not strong enough to campaign in your major racing centres..every week they have a pinnacle plate an mr82 hcap and a mr92 hcap and 95percent of the local trainers dont have horses to put into those type of races unless they want to compete way under sufferance..surely the card should be made up of maidens and low merit rated handicaps to cater for kimberlys horse population and visitors who have battling horses..bloemfontein catered solely for this and it gave battling trainers and owners a chance to recover some costs..

I agree with you Pirates - I think that the vast amount of trainers there have low MR horses and the program should be set accordingly or more handicaps (no offence to the owners but Lawful leader should be Handicapped out of contention by now yet he continues to find races every few weeks)If I had a Sand runner at the Vaal with top ability(Alimony is one that St John has had to play with carefully) I doubt we would ever be able to chalk up 17 wins without having to carry 80Kg by now!

THE NEXT MEETING at kim has a pinnqacle plate with 15 nominations with pac miller entering 8 and spies 3 ,a fillies and mares 86 merit rating with 15 nominations and a fillies and mare 1000m hcap with 11 nominations of which leon lotz has nominated 5..whoever does the programming for kimberly needs to be shown the door considering its the bottom end of south african racing and the racing program needs to be scheduled as such...the mediocrity continues

Agree I wld rather that money go into Jhb stakes and the useless horses nust go do sumthing else..I know that sounds brutal but it really is a form of sheltered employment and does nothing for the breeding stock as a filly winning there in a lowly handicap is misleading when used as a broodmare

I think that the idea that low rated fillies going to stud have a negative effect on the breed is overblown. Many good broodmares were indifferent racehorses.

Interesting.
What do you mean by "negative effect"? And in what way is it over blown?

There are also not that many options for horses after their racing career is over.
I think Kimberley programmes need to be cautious when awarding black-type to their races

I personally feel Bloemfontein was worth it, nice pools, good payouts and mediocre horses could at least earn...
I could rather see Phumelela give Pe more racemeetings as there are far more horses nominated there than in kimberley...or increase Vaal sand meetings. The wasted prize money at Kimberley could rather be spent on upping the Pe stakes & Vaal sand stakes...
Funny how many horses that cost a lot at sales or imported ends up at Kimberley just to make back some of their losses and mostly they feature in these so-called pinnacle events or previously mentioned high merit rated handicaps at Kimberley...
I MISS BLOEMFONTEIN...

There are no black type races in Kimberley. I also miss Bloemfontein, very much. Any post which criticises weak races, not because they are weak per se but because they have some supposed devastating effect on the stud book, is over blown. We've had this discussion before. All those goat tracks in the Australian bush don't have a negative impact on their breed, and we have only one Kimberley to their hundred-and-one Woolloomooloos.
