Eight Street rating has gone from MR 101 before the Victory Moon to 107.
He is a 5yo.
Oracy, a 4yo, is 108.
Dan de Lago, a 4yo, is 104.
Smart Banker, a 5yo, is 110.

There is no WFA difference in Nov over 2000m between 4yo's and 5yo's, so the Mr differences represent the weight differences between these horses.

Cheers KM - A true champion can win off of top weight in every race. Oracy Slightly ahead in rating at a similar time in their careers. This could probably be written off to the areas they race in i.e Jhb season is earlier than the Cape.

Thanks for the info

You do know that the race is a handicap and that the horse has never been the distance? Even an Ngong bookmaker wouldn't make him odds on, 2/1 is plenty skinny enough.

I take note of what you say.

what I dont understand, and I use this as the yardstick

race 2 today maiden plate
11/10
12/10
7/1 bar

summercup
2/1
5/2
6/1 bar

my thinking..
should the summercup not be the shorter prices

One is a level weights maiden where some horses have shown next to nothing, the other is a handicap for good performers. There is no earthly way that the betting should be the other way round.

Make no mistake, I think Oracy and Magical may well fight it out. But if you think that Oracy is an overlay at 2/1 then have a bet.

Its good to see the coin from the other side too.

we have 2 different views and somewhere inbetween we find the correct answer.

if I am on 0 and you are on 10, we assume that the answer can and should be around 5, right in the middle.

however, its possible that the answer lies at 9.

as a bookmaker, i would have priced the summercup short..
people play more money on these races, and where else will they strike bets..
the bookmakers have a captive market, no south african can bet overseas or on the e-markets, so they have to take the odds..
the fact that Interbet offers 2/1 the fav, is purely the opinion of 300 bookmakers, as the punters cannot lay..

on the other side of the coin, if the punter could lay, we might find oracy at 7/2
