Laird on a high into Summer Cup by Leon Setaro

The unstoppable combo of (from left) Markus Jooste, Anton Marcus and Charles Laird,
pictured here with Oracy shortly after winning the Gauteng Guineas earlier this year.

The Sansui Summer Cup looms large next weekend and trainer Charles Laird rides in on the back of an unbelievable hot streak at the moment having won 6 of the last 7 races in which he's had runners (7th to 14Nov-09) including a 1-2 finish in the Victory Moon on Saturday. This represents a very tidy winning strike rate (per race) of 86% and when the big one does arrive, SA's current champion trainer looks to have a vice grip on proceedings once again. His 5 prong attack is headed up by Oracy, who boasts a superb formline pointing one-way to the stars; unbeaten in 5 starts to date including 2x Grade-2 wins and an easy thumping of this year's Charity Mile winner Seattle Ice last time out. He now goes for the hoodoo-breaking 6th straight win-in-a-row, a feat rarely achieved in SA's major centres!

1st win. Battlers dot com. Next.
2nd win. Ok win. No real champions in the field.
3rd win. You got to be joking me right?
4th win. All level weights. Competition no match. 90MR against 106MR.
5th win. Probably the most respective of them all..

bubby,
what is going to win..
Oracy 2/1..
if it was such a sure thing, the horse would be 7/10

AW

Oracy wont win.

Laird says he didnt race it in the VM as he wanted to preserve his weight.

Other sources say the horse is not striding out.....

2 legs four legs.....??

If you look at the wins, nothing special about it.

Lots of rumours also last time when Oracy ran; and that was a special win imo; seems to be a horse with a lot of problems; but if he comes to the course in good nick, I don't believe he can be beaten; if he falls in a hole on the day; I think Magical will win.

If the consultants are right, why does the stable not stand up and say.....
why must I allways send my spies out..
this is not the cold war....

sure I know it's not my horse...
we can argue its none of my business...
I dont buy horses at that level...
pay max R5/kg...
but if the horse had to run a bad race because of legs..
what credibility will be left for the stable...
will they fall in my category then....R5/kg..

or are they having us on....
the horse wins by 15 lenghts...
then insured...
sold...
payday...
