Right. If you are sure it can't win keep it short and catch the punters. Why scare them away by drifting it like that? If you truly know (as opposed to think) it won't win. Ditto if it's going to be scratched. Shorter price = bigger deduction.

Those trainers owing bookies are the ones that haven't learnt about punting yet, or they're addicts. The fact that they owe tells the story in itself.

Also factor this in - trainers are 'after race/hindsight merchants' just like the rest of us.. 'we made it a cert today, amazed that the press didn't tip it' etc etc. talk only counts before the race! And.. for every tip that wins, there's a queue of losers behind it.
