MEL KAPLAN - The Fairview card this afternoon is headed by Race 4, a FM 90 Handicap over 1000m and the opening leg of the jackpot. Consistent Zili could be the pick but she can expect some stiff opposition as there are a few of the others with decent winning chances.
Zili has raced over this 1000m nine times for three wins and five places and in my estimation is a perfectly safe Place Accumulator banker. As for the Jackpot and Pick 6 one should perhaps look for a little cover.
Colleague Jack Milner goes for National Arabian who must be in with a good chance as she has a win, a second and a third to show for only three local runs. She won three and placed three times in Cape Town before relocating to the Eastern Cape and, being lightly raced, probably has scope for improvement. On the downside is that she has raced over 1000m only twice. Although she finished in the money on both of those occasions one has to ponder the reason why her Cape trainer Eric Sands did not try her over the minimum trip more often.
Home Secretary is another with decent credentials where a doubt about the trip comes up. Only three of her 13 races to date were over 1000m and she was unplaced in two of those. She does look likely to contest place money though.
Go Me Gal is a winner of three of seven starts over the distance and was also placed three times. She has previously beaten Zili by 4.25 lengths over the track and trip at level weights. More recently she had the measure of Zili by just a neck and is now 0.5kg worse off. Against her is that she does not always run to her best. It’s an open call where these four should be the principals. My vote goes to Zili purely on her consistency.

Did Jurasic Park manage to win it? Or beaten a head at the end?
