15 years 6 months agoSouth Africa's leading indigenous rider will create history this week, writes Craig Young.
S'Manga Khumalo was plucked out of a South African classroom and the tape measure was produced. Jockeys for thoroughbreds were required and the youngster made correct weight. A jockey he would be.
''They measured me up,'' Khumalo said from the public grandstand at Randwick racecourse on Saturday. ''Measured my knee height. They were looking for specific measures, looked at my growth plate. I was OK to give it a go. I do have a love for the animals; animals are not new to me.''more

I was one of the few that bankered two of Smanga's rides in PE about two seasons ago when he rode the jackpot their . I won quiet a bit of money on his rides . I think he is one to watch for the future .

Jockey takes Bee-line to winning post
04 Dec, 2009 09:48 AM
South African jockey S’manga Khumalo will carry the Bee-Power logo on his jodhpurs when he rides in future after he accepted a sponsorship deal with Honey Haven’s Frank Maiolo this week.
Mr Maiolo said he was impressed with the talented jockey and as his product is used widely by jockeys, this sponsorship deal would be important as he will soon be exporting Bee-Power into Africa.
Khumalo will wear jodhpurs bearing the Bee-Power logo in all races in Australia or South Africa beginning at Mudgee today.
The jockey was previously sponsored by the leading South African seafood restaurant chain Ocean Basket.
