The Big T and Greyville - Saturday
15 years 5 months ago
So my punting form has gone down the s%$t tubes the last day or so....but I'm coming back strong today!!!
I fancy only 3 runners today:
Random Quest
Market Dominance
Spanish Wisdom
You can get about 76/1...with a stretch 80/1 is on the cards.
Happy punting!!!!

WITH an additional R478,687 added to the Pick 6 pool at Turffontein on Saturday, there is expected to be some R2.5-million up for grabs in this popular exotic bet.
It is not, on the surface at least, an easy card, especially Race 7, a MR 102 Handicap over 1000m on the inside track. Every runner has a chance but fortunately there are only eight horses carded and with two couplings, one could easily afford to put the field in the Pick 6.
There are a couple of tried-and-trusted horses in this field, particularly Ormond Ferraris’ six-year-old gelding National Victor. He has raced four times over this course and distance for two wins and two seconds.
Last month National Victor ran a 1.25-length second to Royal Exit, who he now meets on 1.5kg better terms. That race panned out particularly well for Paul Matchett’s runner as he was able to sit on the heels of Bismarck, who went pretty quickly, and when the front-runner started to falter, Marthinus Mienie moved in quickly for the kill.
National Victor did not have a clear passage and had to switch twice, so he did well to get as close as he did.
This is a different day, a different race with a different pace and Royal Exit may not have it all his own way and he may struggle to confirm that win over National Victor.
Charles Laird sends out two runners, Hurricane Force and Cyber Case, and the latter may be the pick of the pair. Laird has engaged Anthony Delpech for the ride and though the half brother to Jay Peg has never raced at this track, he appears to hold his stablemate on their last run.
That was on the Vaal sand, but both seem equally adept on this surface so that race may have some relevance. Hurricane Force ran 6.25 lengths behind Cyber Case and is only 0.5kg better off.
The best performer is unquestionably Mike de Kock’s Braggadacio but the distance may prove a problem. Had this race been down the straight I doubt he would have been in the running but because they go marginally slower when racing around the turn, his class may pull him through.
The form shows that Braggadacio has won his only start over 1000m but that was his debut run and may not mean much over three years down the line. Apprentice Evert Pheiffer takes 2.5kg off his back and he is sure to be running at them in the closing stages.
Ironically the only other horse to have beaten National Victor over this track and trip is also in this line-up. It was in June 2007 that Swordsman swooped on the Ferraris runner to nab him on the line and they meet on the identical weight differential in this race.
That may have been a long time ago but Brian Wiid’s charge ran brilliantly in a Pinnacle Plate over 1160m at Turffontein last time out when a 3.50-length fourth to Smart Banker. If one considers that Mother Russia and Warm White Night were the respective second and third-placed runners, one can understand the quality of that performance.
Cappoquin looks held by Royal Exit and National Victor but three runs back was beaten just 0.85 lengths over the course and distance by Scarlet Letter. A repeat of that effort would make him competitive in this line-up.
Best bet on the card comes in the final race, a FM 76 Handicap over 1000m, where Dianne Stenger saddles Catherina Lady. She finished a four-length fifth to Sidera in the Listed Starling Stakes and that should be good enough to win in this company.
