Fourth Guineas in six seasons for Kannemyer
Report: South Africa, Saturday
Kenilworth: Bloodstock South Africa Cape Guineas (Grade 1) 1m, turf, 3yo
WELSH-BORN veteran Karl Neisius steered Noordhoek Flyer to a convincing win to increase local trainer Dean Kannemyer's stranglehold on the Classic.
Anton Marcus set out to make every post a winning one on Galileo's Galaxy, but the 11-10 favourite was headed by the 9-2 winner just inside the final furlong and beaten a length.
Kiss Again, a 33-1 shot, was half a length away in third.
Neisius, 52, winning the race for the third time, said: "I was stuck a little bit wide early on but I managed to get to one off the fence before the turn and then he picked them off horse by horse.
In fact I got to the front earlier than I would have liked, but my horse stuck to his guns."
Kannemeyer was landing the Cape Guineas for the fourth time in six seasons and he pointed out that his stable's tally now reads seven, because his father Peter trained three winners of the race.
Noordhoek Flyer's dam was bought by Mary Slack in Britain, put in foal to Pivotal and brought to South Africa. The resultant colt was purchased at the National Yearling Sale for R2.5 million (£204,000/€230,650) for Monaco-based American Lady Christine Laidlaw, who had never owned a horse in South Africa before.
Kannemeyer said: "Noordhoek Flyer is in the J & B Met (at Kenilworth on January 30), but I'm not sure he is quite ready for that and there is also the Cape Derby (at the same meeting). I will leave it open for the moment.
"When you've got a good horse, you've got to sit down and plan. It's not just a question of popping champagne corks!"

To all you brainwaves having a go at Byleveld - have you ever heard of preferred going??? For the last 3 weeks they have been coming to the outside as that is where the better going is situated. He road Kapil exactly the same when winning the Group 2 (from way off the pace). This time he got unlucky - too many of you punters speak from the pocket. He may have made the wrong decision by going up the middle and getting squeezed - bad luck - good jockeys take risks!!! But I suppose all of you "ex - jockeys" would know that!!!!

What a brass you are ... unfortunately it might be , but yes most of us do speak from the pocket thats why we're in the game !!! . There were 8 or 9 horses in the race, so worst case is go for the inside and you might be 4/5 horse widths from the outside and the difference in going might have been slightly worse at best. Simple, we have every right to complain and bitch about a really kak ride.

Of course you can complain. But that doesn't necessarily make it true.
