Morning Dave, well a quick report back from Thursday night at Meydan. Was a great night, was still a bit knackered from flight so probably didn't get to appreciate it as much as should have!
Venue is huge, imposing and spectacular all in 1! The people love their racing there and was a decent-sized crowd in. The view from the stands up the straight is superb, and the huge screens showing race means you don't miss a thing. The replays and the way they use technology to show a horses position thru race also very good.
The few things that need some work are the roads getting to course, all a bit chaotic, and the food and drinks side of things needs a major sort out before WC night. Restaurants were for the elite it seemed, if you're not an Arab prince or trainer or celeb then you're in the wrong place. Drinks at bar were a jaw-dropping 30 DHM a pint, so that's around R70, sobering!
A good night but well down on punts, Mrs Southpaw came out up after wisely ignoring my tips to back the SA connected horse on night and instead doing what ladies often do - just keep backing Frankie Dettori!
Will upload some photos when i get a mo.
