PRESS RELEASE 22 DECEMBER 2009
CAPE SIZZLING SUMMER CHARITY TURF CHALLENGE
The regally bred, Noordhoek Flyer, scored an emphatic victory in the Bloodstock South Africa Gr.1 Cape Guineas and in so doing, earned his followers 15 points in the Cape Charity Turf Challenge. The striking chestnut colt by leading international sire, Pivotal, looks sure to line up for the Investec Gr.1 Cape Derby run on J&B Met day, 30 January 2010 and could be a major factor in determining the eventual winner of the competition. Popular wild card entry, Galileo’s Galaxy, secured 12 points by running second and the less fancied Mike Bass runner, Kiss Again, another wild card entry, ran third earning 10 points.
There was a shock result in the Gr.2 Diadem Stakes when the Glen Kotzen inmate, Thunder Key (10 points), won in convincing fashion ahead of Blue Tiger (7) and the improving filly, Dance With Al (5). This throws the sprinting division wide open after the failure of the strongly fancied runners, Kapil, Warm White Night and Villandry, although the last mentioned will clearly benefit from the drop down to 5f when contesting the Betting World Gr.1 Cape Flying Championships. This is the second of the bonus races and will be run on 23 January at Kenilworth Racecourse.
Paul Garlicki gave up his lead to “Shalita” who now tops the Leader Board on 56 points with the improvers, “Peanuts” and “The Sherriff”, 3 points adrift in third place. One of the weekend spot prize winners, “The Beast”, also benefited from Noordhoek Flyer’s Guineas win and moves into joint fifth position on 47 points with inaugural Charity Turf Challenge winner, “JMFJ”. “The Beast” received a case of wine from Klawervlei and will no doubt be enjoying a Merry Xmas!
The other spot prize winner was “Silverblue 2” who won a R1000 betting voucher courtesy of Dean Finder Racing and Sports Betting. Silver Blue 2 also enjoyed good results on Saturday and moved into joint sixth position on 49 points.

PRESS RELEASE 29 DECEMBER 2009
CAPE SIZZLING SUMMER CHARITY TURF CHALLENGE
There were a number of Gr.3 events run last weekend with two horses scoring 5 points each. Mrs Oppenheimer’s Mokaro proved his status as one of South Africa’s leading stayers when giving weight and a beating to his rivals in the Cape Summer Stayers Handicap on Boxing Day at Kenilworth Racecourse. He looks set to contest the valuable Gr.2 J&B Reserve Stayers Handicap on J&B Met day at the end of January.
Then Oracy resumed winning ways at Turffontein Racecourse on Sunday afternoon with a gutsy victory over Captain Scott and stablemate, Dan De Lago, in the London News Stakes. This gives the Jooste/Laird team a strong hand in the J&B Met and both horses were popular choices in the Charity Turf Challenge.
Earlier in the week, Relinyane, earned a few points when winning a 5f sprint handicap at Kenilworth.
Paul Garlicki rejoins “Shalita” at the top of the Leader Board on 56 points giving him three entries in the top 20.
The weekend’s spot prize winners were “The Sherriff” and “The Kapil Team” who won a R1000 betting voucher from Betting World and a case of wine from Arabella Estate respectively.
In Cape Town this weekend, two sprints are featured, the Gr.2 Sceptre Stakes and the Listed Southeaster Sprint whilst Greyville stages the Gr.3 Flamboyant Stakes on Saturday night which might attract some Charity Turf Challenge wild card entries.
