A RETURN to Arlington should see Spectre Boy return to the winner’s box when he contests Race 5, a MR 90 Handicap over 1600m on Monday.
The four-year-old gelding has won two of his three races at this track and his other start over the course and distance saw him run a 0.50-length second to Evolving Tactics. That race was his first after a layoff and he seemed to defy the odds as he wore steel shoes that day and drifted from 22-10 to 15-2.
He was supported to win both of his last two starts at Fairview but found the 1400m a touch too short when a fast-finishing, 0.85-length fourth behind Sudden Time and he then ran a similar race from off the pace for a 2.25-length third to the same horse over 1600m.
Fortunately, Sudden Time is not around on this occasion and his main threat could come from Samsyruss, who ran an improved race at this track last time out when beaten 0.75 lengths into third by Island Retreat. He has yet to win over this distance but has been running on in previous races over 1600m and carries just 52kg.
My Fair Friend has an undeniable chance but looks held by Spectre Boy on their last run. Granted there was just a neck between them in the race won by Sudden Time but that was at Fairview and the change of track should make the difference.
Huckleberry has the class to win but was beaten 2.30 lengths by My Fair Friend in his penultimate start. He did win subsequently and is now 0.5kg worse off. On paper, at least, he has little chance of reversing the form.

Any word for the first timers? Maybe experience to count?
Just checked that both Alec Forbes mounts in the first and last have been backed. Stable money?

Polo I put my 50 bucks down, but personally I wouldn't have a full go on Slumdog
... Don't ignore Tower of Strength and I Red Sea Ruby may be the improver in that race.
