Kenilworth & Greyville - Saturday
15 years 5 months ago
Here we go again....a new year with new vibes and new vigor for the sport we love!!!
I think I'm only going to take a double today.
Kenilworth Race 4 - Macchiato onto Greyville Race 1 - Pageant Queen.
Hopefully if Barry is around he could perhaps comment on my selection of his filly in the first?
Happy punting

Fans of last season’s Equus Champion three-year-old filly, Lady Windermere, have had their patience tested this season but the wait seems to be over and she’s due back at her home track Kenilworth on Saturday to defend one of the many titles she claimed last season, the Grade 2 Sceptre Stakes.
This 1 200m sprint run on weight-for-age terms should be the ideal starting point for the classy sprinter-miler’s Cape summer challenge and she should be hard to oppose if she’s back to her best. Trainer Glen Kotzen has a high regard for the daughter of Western Winter and this was evident in his first ask of her this season when pitting her against the boys in the Gr 2 Merchants. But the going came up heavy for the Merchants and - as was the case in her last poor performance, the Poinsettia at Clairwood in April - she got bogged down and never raised a gallop. Kotzen later confirmed that she had also suffered a respiratory problem during that outing. He felt that she was over the problem going into the Victress Stakes over 1600m earlier this month, with Kotzen expecting a much improved run, but the dual Grade 1 winner was pulled out at the last minute. Everything must not have been 100% on the day and Kotzen was not about to take any chances with his champion filly. Two weeks on and one can only assume that she is now ready to give off her best. Lady Windermere won this race easily last term and improved thereafter to win two grade ones. If she’s anywhere close to her best, it should just be a matter of how far.
But her interrupted programme is of concern and, as in most graded sprint races, the margin for error is slim and there is plenty of talent waiting in the wings if Lady Windermere fails to fire. Dance With Al was three to four lengths off Lady Windermere this time last year but she improved to run an unlucky second in the SA Fillies Guineas at Greyville in May.
She picked up from where she had left off in her first start of the season earlier this month in winning the Southern Cross Stakes – won by Lady Windermere last term - and backed that up with a commendable third against the boys in the Diadem. Justin Snaith rates this filly and she must be taking her races well as she has her third start in a month. But she has the form to go close here and is fitter than most of her opposition. Darryl Hodgson’s pair, Purple Orchid and Servilia, both showed up well in their first outings of the season and warrant respect on current form. Servilia was running on strongly over 1 000m in the Southern Cross Stakes behind Dance With Al and could get closer over this extra furlong. But it is worth noting that Karl Neisius was on Servilia last time and has decided to stick with Purple Orchid, an easy winner in an Allowance Plate over 1 000m two weeks back. She seems to be better on firmer going and her record over this track and trip is impressive. Purple Orchid should have no chance with a fully wound up Lady Windermere but if the latter is not up to it on the day then she could be the one to pick up the pieces. Most of the others seem well held at the weights and on recent form, including the only three-year-old to stand her ground, the Mike Bass trained Seminole. She has almost three-lengths to find on Dance With Al on her latest effort. Lady Windermere is expected to bounce back to winning ways with Purple Orchid and Dance With Al being her most likely dangers.

Kenilworth:
1: Cool Conqueror
2: American Fantasy
3: Lamaar
4: Blood Diamond
5: Sports Factor
6: Relinyane
7: Seminole
8: Bush Pirate
9: Oyster Bay(nap)
Big ask for Case Stated at Greyville and she might need the run,but here`s hoping she`s upto the task...

I'm with you dude. I think the card tomorrow at Kenilworth is a good one. Just think about what we can look forward to next weekend in the Cape.
It could be that the brother and sister each win their respective Million Rand races????
I certainly would be hoping so

Pageant Queen is live, but might need the race, and if she does not win, she runs back in 4 days.
