Vaal Thursday

Had a look at the card, and what can i say looks rather lackluster?
Don`t think im gonna get too involved -
Lucky`s Napolean Street can go close race1,and i might have a small e/w on Morning Mist race3..
Remember the Pic Mr H gave us the other day of the Vaal training tracks when placing your bets!!
Happy punting..

Greg, as mentioned before you will only know the stable had/has a virus after they all run down the tubes, the recover months later and after one of his horses finally win again, he will go onto TV and say:
"We went through a bad patch there for a while with a nasty virus in our stable"...."
Who bites the big one????????? We do.
If I were to punt tomorrow I would have a go at the Woodruff filly in the 3rd.....Hoping they are not the affected yard!

Thanks Hibs, thats twice this evening you've saved me
Tommy, I don't think Oscar has horses with Woodie... (Referring to Zoro's statement that Oscar has horses in the infected stable)

Correct Greg, but there was more than one stable if I remember correctly.
I'm gonna walk the dog rather tomorrow morning.
Good luck guys and get all your money back!!

Well glad to report that the sun is shining, Cantabro and Fort Sylvia look the best on a poor card

JACK MILNER RXP is sure we can fill our boots at the Vaal
A PROGRAMME containing four Maiden Plates, three MR 66 Handicaps and a MR 61 Handicap for fillies and mares is hardly one you would expect to attract punters.
That is a wonderful aspect of horseracing. It is not always the quality of the horses that attracts punters to the honey pot, but the chance of finding a couple of good bets. Tomorrow’s card on the Vaal turf could be that sort of day.
Runners like Burn Up in Race 1, Cantabro in Race 2, Royal Terrace in Race 4, Barbarossa in Race 7 and Fort Sylvia in Race 8 all have the form to win their respective races. Of course, it’s all great in theory and a dose of reality often comes to jolt one, but it would be a surprise if a few of these, at least, did not take home the winner’s cheque.
Gary Alexander came away from Turffontein last Sunday with a couple of winners and the stable should get the day on track with Burn Up. They don’t come much weaker than this Maiden Plate over 1000m and Burn Up has been knocking at the door. His last two starts have been over 1600m but his form shows that sprinting is more his forte.
While the Russian Revival gelding would probably prefer 1200m, he will never get an easier opportunity than this to open his account. Marthinus Mienie, who rode him in his two most recent starts, is in the irons again.
Cantabro’s two runs over the Vaal 1400m have been exemplary. He has been runner-up on both occasions and they were to top-class Charles Laird runners. His first was in February last year where he finished second to Dan De Lago and in November he went down to Danse To Destiny.
He was at least four lengths adrift of those horses but a repeat of either run will be good enough to ensure him a lead into the No 1 box. Piere Strydom takes the ride for Geoff Woodruff.
Royal Terrace had his first start for Weiho Marwing in December and was just 0.50 lengths short of making a winning debut for the stable. Marwing’s runners are currently making their presence felt and Royal Terrace stands out in this field. Robbie Hill retains the ride.
Ernie Anderson is another who has been churning out winners in recent months. On New Year’s Day he nearly caused an upset that would have been hard to surpass for the rest of the year when Nyakatho moved up dangerously to challenge Curved Ball in the Sea Cottage Stakes at Turffontein. Fortunately for supporters of the 1-5 favourite, Curved Ball found a little bit extra to win by 0.50 lengths.
On Sunday Anderson struck again when Dreamy Times trounced 9-20 favourite Safwan by 15.25 lengths and the good vein of form can continue in Race 7 where he sends out Barbarossa. The Qui Danzig filly comes back from a 91-day layoff but Anderson is clearly confident his charge will come out fresh and has engaged Strydom to ride her.
Prior to the rest Barbarossa ran a 3.75-length fourth to Roy Magner’s Jet Flyer and she has won twice since then. Once again this is not a strong field of fillies and mares and Barbarossa should have her rivals’ measure in this 1200m race.
Fort Sylvia ran three successive seconds in KwaZulu-Natal and now makes her first appearance in Gauteng in Race 9 over 1200m. She has not raced since August but Mike de Kock’s runners usually run well when they are fresh and that should not be a concern.

Tough looking card today; my fancies are Newsdesk in the 2nd - can't see the 14/1 lasting - good penultimate run before disappointing on the sand, and Barbarossa, who should be too good for this field if ready after the rest - and the booking of Strydom seems to indicate that she is fit and well.
Just a word on Irysha in the last; her starting stall certificate was withdrawn after her last run, she was then re-certified jumping with the Monty Roberts blanket (which she will be wearing today if the starters remember to bring it to the course). I am not suggesting that she can beat the top 3 in the betting, but if she jumps on terms she could run 4th imo.
